It's great in almost any environment. It does not work in backing up cloud files, but it is great at backing up photos and documents on the local system. (I could be mistaken, it just hasn't worked in this case for us).

Carbonite Safe is disaster recovery for my company. I utilize local backups for day to day operations. In the event something catastrophic happens and my backup is destroyed also, Carbonite Safe is there.
Pros
continuous backup
Easy recovery of files
versioning of files
Cons
backup options for NAS
backing up files in use (Outlook files for example)
Likelihood to Recommend
it is very good for small businesses and individuals. Unlimited backup per computer at a very reasonable price. It tends to get expensive for larger organizations with a lot of data.
We use Carbonite Server to perform a daily backups of our Share Drive Server and our MRP Server. These critical drives need reliable daily backup protection in case of data loss or hardware failure. The plan is set to perform a backup every night with email notification of the status of the successful backup.
Pros
Carbonite Server makes it easy to set up the Back up schedule and offers many custom options within the plan.
The reliability of the backup was the key factor in our choice to go with carbonite.
The set up cost was acceptable compared to other similar platforms.
Cons
I have not encountered any missing functionality.

There is no situation where a computer, especially something as critical as a server, does not need to back up its contents. You know to "Save your work often". What good is saving your work if the data gets corrupted? An offsite backup is critical to ensuring that your data is safe.
We use Carbonite Server mainly for Microsoft Exchange Mailbox backups such as client messages, and transaction logs. As of writing this review, most of our servers have ceased operation as the company started integrating cloud backup infrastructure from Veeam and Microsoft 365. Those who are still on-premise still utilized Carbonite's backup services as a fallback option.
Pros
The user interface for Carbonite Server was really easy and friendly to use.
Although the setup process was somewhat clunky compared to other similar services, once it's up and running, managing it is super straight forward.
Back up scheduling and notification system was very minimal and non-intrusive.
Cons
The user interface is nice, but is a bit dated compared to other brands. A facelift would definitely be appreciated.
Granular restore for Exchange has to be set up explicitly and require some additional applications. It wasn't mentioned when we first set up the service until one of the staff noticed that it wasn't backing up the mailbox. It would be nice if such granular restore is mentioned upfront by asking the user what type of files they're going to back up.
No notification for failed backups. Any form of email notification or push notification would be appreciated if the backup fails. Some backup took hours and it's quite frustrating just to come back and see it failed at like 10%.
Likelihood to Recommend
More than enough for small companies with several on-prem servers. In 2021, it wouldn't be wise to pit all important data to a single backup service. Carbonite Server is solid, but it's not 100% reliable so I'd definitely recommend having multiple backup services either on the cloud in conjunction with other backup services so the user has multiple safety nets in case of disaster and failed granular restorations.

We are using the Carbonite Server Backup to manage the customers' backup environment. It won't give the report module as expected, but apart from that we have enough options to explore the backup and restore technologies.
Pros
Easy to manage.
Easy to deploy the agent and configure the same.
User friendly.
Efficient and reliable.
Easy for freshers to explore.
Cons
Needs improvement in reporting section.
Needs DR environment.
Needs extra options to fetch the Vault data report and Retention report.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is a very good tool and most reliable, efficient and user friendly so even freshers can easily understand. But it needs to be improved in Reporting section - need more information about reports in depth and detail. We need DR environment so that we can perform the DR activity whenever we want and perform and explore other things too. Stable environment and no doubt in configuration part.
We use Carbonite Server Backup across the whole organization. We are using it to backup the VM, SQL, Oracle DB and Exchange server Backup. This has solved the problem of hardware utilization, as we store data in their cloud vault.
Pros
Granular restore for application and file level restore are very good and simple
Web central control is very simple and straight forward for configuration backup
Director server configuration is easy and simple to setup
Cons
The backup report really needs improvement. It is really pathetic, as it gives wrong information. It is not suitable for auditing.
The Exchange DAG backup should support instead of configuring each exchange server.
Cloud infrastructure supports a lot of AWS and Azure instances that are coming up.
Likelihood to Recommend
This is suitable for VM infra and physical server backup. It offers application level backup and restore. However, it does not support DAG backup. It offers very good data management as you don't have to worry about the space utilized in the Cloud vault or Base vault. Not suitable for audit report, and it won't be available if there are any business needs that you failed. We have suffered in this section as we could not provide the reports to our audit team. We failed and the product itself failed. Not advanced compared with Veeam, Druva, and Acronis backups.

We are using Carbonite server backup as or current backup solution for 6 servers. We are also using the desktop version for key players within the organization. The intention of bringing the products in is to have a safety net in a place other than Microsoft's built-in shadow copy system.
Pros
Backups
Installation of client
Reliability
Cons
The user interface is clunky.
Admin console is very slow.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is well suited when backing up a small number of servers on a timed schedule.

We are using Carbonite Safe to back up files on all of our computers including pictures, videos, and documents. Once we set the system up, it is easy to check on each computer to see what is backed up by looking at the colored dots next to each file. This indicates currently backed up or backing up on the next save.
Pros
It is so easy to see what files are backed up according to the color dots next to the files. Green indicates backed up and brown indicates that it will be backed up on the next round.
We get email updates from Carbonite to help us stay current on our usage.
I am confident that our files are backed up and can be easily be recovered. I have been through the process and was able to regain just the files I needed.
Cons
I don't see any areas that need improvement. It can be a set it and forget it or you can easily monitor what is backed up if you want to stay on top of it.
Likelihood to Recommend
We have used Carbonite to transfer a large number of files to a new computer by downloading the backup. This was easy and worked so well that we use that each time we have to add a new computer to our system. You don't have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your backup and they offer a large amount of space. We haven't had to go for an upgrade.
This is a background application that is in use on one or more servers. It is a cloud backup software where you select a number of folders to automatically backup to the Mozy/Carbonite cloud. It has historically worked by selecting the amount of storage one needs and backup up the needed files. It is in use by an entire organization but it does so behind the scenes. The problem it solves is data integrity, restoration, and retention.
Pros
Simple and reliable, set the software up and let it run.
Clear and intuitive to install and configure.
Easy to read/monitor email reporting for backup sets.
Cons
The complicated licensing system, purchasing can become difficult to comprehend until set-up.
From an MSP support standpoint, emails can be cumbersome based on a number of jobs.
Likelihood to Recommend
Very efficient for small to medium-sized businesses. Once a large amount of data exists, though, it becomes more efficient to have a "per server" model. This is a great solution for startups or "quick" backups of data sets. I would recommend this for any organization up until approximately 40 users, then it makes sense to review the other Carbonite Complete options.
