Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am a delivery engineer that specializes in providing F5 migration and implementation services for our customers. We focus on upgrades, EoL, migrations, and other adhoc services.

Pros

  • The configuration utility is great and consistent across different major versions.
  • It is easy to use and easy to educate customers on how to manage day to day operations.
  • The commands are simple and the tmsh list and tmsh show commands give great output to aid in creating deliverables for customers.

Cons

  • The memory management for versions 17 often need some adjustment, it would be nice to have the default values be increased so they appliance did not experience issues out of the box when multiple modules are provisioned.
  • The guided configuration that replaced iApps seems a little buggy and slow.

Likelihood to Recommend

F5 BIG-IP is great when you need to assess your application health. Managing the F5s are simple, and it is a great load balancer compared to something like Citrix, where that product isn't very intuitive. Also, there are a lot of VScode extensions that help with automation tasks.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

F5 BIG-IP is used for LTM and GTM

Pros

  • LTM
  • GTM

Cons

  • HA syncing between GTM's and LTM's is not easy to maintain when using self-signed certs. Having to jump to the CLI to grab and sync the self-signed certs between devices seem a bit old school. And certs are updated having to clean-up and redo the process is cumbersome

Likelihood to Recommend

F5 BIG-IP core capabilities of load balancing and proxying the client connections is stellar.

We use BIG-IP to load balance applications in several different environments. We utilize Velos and Viprion chassis and configure them all as HA pairs. We also have an application study tool and BIG-IP. We use the F5 as the router in our main data center and also have a disaster recovery site that duplicates our production environments.

  • Communication

Cons

  • Easy to understand new products to market
  • Sponsored e-learnings about the product

Likelihood to Recommend

I cannot say enough good things about our account team and the service that they provide. I think that the pro services and support teams could do a better job communicating with each other internally. Sometimes some things have been lost in translation between teams
