What is Forest?

Forest is an operations platform for regulated companies that need to run compliance, payment, and business processes against data held in their own databases and systems. The platform combines configurable workflows, case management, provider integrations, and controlled access for employees and AI agents.

Key Capabilities

  • Compliance operations: Forest supports customer onboarding, KYC (Know Your Customer) and KYB (Know Your Business) checks, sanctions and PEP (politically exposed person) screening, transaction-monitoring alerts, RFIs (requests for information), and SAR (suspicious activity report) workflows.
  • Payment and dispute operations: Teams can manage refunds, holds, reversals, reconciliation, chargebacks, and disputes as cases with defined review and escalation steps.
  • Data access: Forest connects to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, BigQuery, Snowflake, REST APIs, and GraphQL APIs. According to Forest, its backend can run within a customer’s infrastructure, allowing records to remain in the customer’s systems of record rather than being copied to a separate SaaS data store.
  • Workflow orchestration: Operations teams can configure case inboxes, assignment rules, service-level agreements, approval gates, and escalations. Workflows can call connected KYC, screening, payment-service-provider, custody, and communications services.
  • Agent governance: Forest assigns roles and permissions to human reviewers, business-process-outsourcing partners, and AI agents. The same permission boundaries, approval requirements, jurisdictional scopes, and record-level audit trails apply to actions taken through the platform.
  • Extensibility: Forest exposes data, schemas, actions, and workflows through an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for compatible agent runtimes and internal applications. The platform is intended to let customers change providers or models without rebuilding the underlying operational workflow.

Audience & Use Cases

  • Audience: Compliance, operations, risk, and engineering teams at fintechs, banks, payment service providers, lenders, insurers, wealth-management firms, and crypto custody providers.
  • Use Case: A regulated operations team can use Forest to route a transaction-monitoring alert to the appropriate reviewer, retrieve relevant customer and transaction records, run provider checks, require a second approval where needed, and retain an audit record of each decision.

Technical Specifications

  • Supported data sources: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, BigQuery, Snowflake, REST APIs, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Deployment claim: Forest states that the backend runs in the customer’s infrastructure alongside systems of record.
  • Integration model: MCP connectors for external providers and an MCP server for compatible agent runtimes.
  • Compliance claims: Forest states that the product is SOC 2 certified and GDPR-aligned.
