Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to collaborate across different accounts throughout our company. We mostly use it to approve still designs. For one design approval, it usually goes through about four people. With Frame.io, we can easily track and record every approval and stay on track with our deadlines.

  • Teams can upload videos and receive feedback in real-time.

  • Leaving comments directly on the timeline.

Cons

  • Better mobile app functionality.
  • Add project templates.
  • I would like to be able to customize with my own companies colors and logos.
  • Dropbox or other cloud services integration.

Return on Investment

  • Before frame.io we did approvals via email. now it is 75% faster and more accurate.

Great for larger video productions clunky and overpriced for small organizations

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We briefly trialed Frame.io for use in our organization. It essentially acted as a fleshed-out media manager for other Adobe programs, such as Adobe Premiere.

The software acted as an additional cloud storage backup, with some organization of the uploaded content. It also provided access to those who needed it if added as an approved member. Essentially, a one-stop shop for you to grab the content if needed.

Pros

  • Organizing Storyboards
  • Grouping video content for use
  • Serving as additional cloud storage
  • Providing organizations and ordering of video/storyboard shots

Cons

  • General intuitive use of the app, such as adding metadata to content
  • Editing fields and files must be done in advanced settings not immediately visible on the home screen
  • You cannot drag and drop content in your preferred order in custom collections
  • It's heavily implied that most of the file organization for video/storyboard must be prepared beforehand, which essentially defeats part of using Frame.io for shaping the content.

Return on Investment

  • $25/user/month is required per additional collaborator. Not feasible for small projects or groups.
  • Unless well-versed in how the software works, patience is required + lots of documentation. Starting off, your work time will at least double.
  • Despite it's web app, there's some performance issues on computers with lesser specs. It's recommended to have higher-performance machines, which cost more.

Great Video Editing Collaboration Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Frame.io is used as a video editing collaboration platform to receive comments on the various versions of a video project as an editor makes changes and shares with the review team. The review team is able to easily review the video, make comments at specific points in the video, and then those are communicated bak to the editor for the next review version of the video.

Pros

  • Collecting comments from team members
  • Sharing and notifying about comments made within the platform
  • Organizing various verisons of a video project as it progresses to completion

Cons

  • Would be nice to notate directly on the video certain aspects rather than trying to describe them. Such as being able to circle something of concern on the video.
  • User and seat management is a little tricky. Would be great if this could be simplified and also allow for one-time reviewers to be able to review something without the need to create a seat for them.

Return on Investment

  • This definitely helps a distributed team that is remote to be able to collaborate more efficiently.
  • As mentioned previously, there have been security issues where videos have been able to be pulled off of the platform, but those have been resolved at this point. It's a basic aspect of a platform like this, though, so it's still something we review every now and then to ensure videos are safe.
