  • Import/Export requirements to custom Word documents.

  • Importing and exporting test plans and reports to custom Word documents.
  • Importing from Word documents to update existing requirements.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using JAMA Connect to track our requirements coming from Customer Requirements to our System Requirements and gather all Problems and Changes in development of Car Displays with it. We use it to get proof to our customers of following up on our tests and problem reports. This in conjunction with automated testing and integration of these tests with JAMA.

Pros

  • Tracking of issues related to requirements is easy.
  • Storing test results through the API into defined tests
  • Ease of use and understanding for end-users

Cons

  • Moving from Projects to Programs, were a program contains several projects. In the car industry you have a program which contains several projects (left/right side driving, with or without touch etc.) Still the same program.
  • Login to simple no 2-factor authentication possible
  • Login has no end-date so no warning of expiration-date on password.

Return on Investment

  • Specially the tracking of tests, problem reports, and changes in development is done very well. This saves time.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Jama Connect is the source of truth for requirements within the SKA Organisation (SKAO). We have used internally within SKAO to communicate between Engineering, Operations, and Scientists, but also to do requirement reviews with external consortia, to get their input. We are also using it for requirement flow-down and traceability, and using several report tools. With the SKAO being a non-profit organization, the main goal is delivering maximum value for the system being designed and later implemented, and having an agile way of dealing with requirements helps us. I have now additionally added the usage of Jama Connect to the Joint ALMA Observatory, where we are also using it as the source of truth for requirements. We have been introducing the system to different stakeholders, which are linking their subsystem requirements to the ALMA System Technical Requirements.

Pros

  • Having access to requirements from everywhere in the world.
  • Requirement reports for document-centric parts of the development.
  • Support for online reviews and discussions.
  • Incorporation of different kinds of documents which requirement information.

Cons

  • Cloud-based installations don't have full access to all reporting tools.
  • Online reporting templates are not too customizable.
  • Glossaries are not first-class citizens in Jama; it should be possible to link to glossary entries directly from requirements, and vice-versa.

Return on Investment

  • We do not measure the Return of Investment. We have moved past the Critical Design Review and moving into construction.
  • We expect to be able to measure ROI in the form of increased contingency in the next phase.
  • Engagement with the tool has not been universal; we had many people relying on the exported Word/PDF documents instead of providing feedback on Jama Connect directly or through reviews. Also many people are using Xray to manage testing of requirements in Jama, and need to integrate with it, currently testing a third-party tool for that.
  • We have been able to apply for a non-for-profit license for JIRA and Confluence; we don't seem to have such a possibility with Jama.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Jama Connect as a single place where multiple people can work on requirements, documentation, test cases, and documentation exports. This platform allows us to see traceability between old, new, and different types of requirements as well as any bugs that arise from their respective test cases. It solves the issue of multiple people working on and editing one document, which caused conflicts in the past.

Pros

  • Traceability can be visualized.
  • Comparing between old and new versions of the same requirement is quick and easy.
  • The fact that items are locked when one person works on them, preventing others from writing over them at the same time, prevents conflicts.

Cons

  • I would love to be able to copy the configuration of one item type so I can work from a duplicate without editing the original or manually configuring each field on the admin side.
