Who Buys & Uses Microsoft 365

Pros

  • Comprehensive suite for documentation, data management, and presentations
  • Integrated platform for internal and external collaboration and communication
  • Effective email and calendar management through Outlook

Cons

  • Teams' user interface and performance issues
  • Outlook's search functionality and regressions in the 'new Outlook' version
  • Instability with SharePoint and unreliable OneDrive synchronization

You can do this stuff for free -- or pay to do it right.

Pros

  • Skype for Business is an excellent program for communicating not only in office, but with other Office 365 users across Windows, Mac and mobile platforms.
  • Onedrive, included with a suite of products you are already buying, is a sufficient cloud-file storage program.
  • Outlook is good for organization-wide mailing lists and ease of distribution. It organizes contacts well across a large company.

Cons

  • Skype for business lacks the ability to EVER communicate with personal Skype accounts. Some of our vendors do not subscribe to Office 365 and therefore are shut out of this communication process.
  • Outlook is a bit bare-bones on email coding and html and tries to be everything to everyone, integrating calendars, schedules, and many other functions instead of just being an outstanding email program.
  • OneDrive is nothing special at the end of the day. Sharing of files across user groups is mildly less intuitive than Google Drive or Dropbox and lacks a good "backup" feature should files go missing.

Return on Investment

  • Easy to schedule conversations; keep paper trails; and generally organize tasks and meetings.
  • Can't communicate or share with vendors who do not subscribe to office 365.
  • Easy to share files, make edits and communicate with other 365 users.
  • There are free vendors out there -- but the larger the organization, the more difficult that becomes to implement consistently.

Microsoft 365 fits teaching and research in one place

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Like whom don't use Microsoft 365? It's a universal choice for every research and for every application you would have. All my lectures are presented in PowerPoint format, and you share them in OneDrive. We use Outlook for email and meeting invites. Teams to run these meetings and online lectures.

Pros

  • You can run your online lectures and meetings in Teams and keep everything together in one place.
  • words and its add-ons help with collaboration on research and academic writing.
  • When writing cross-sectional research, we often use Microsoft Forms to collect data.

Cons

  • I have a problem once with authentication and licensing.
  • Teams has a room for improvement by incorporating AI into it.
  • I would love to see AI analytics also embedded in MS Forms. As, people usually use it to collect research data.

Return on Investment

  • It improves how you run online education
  • You and your coauthors can work on the same Word file with tracked changes and comments, and you avoid the common problem of merging different versions from email attachments.
  • It lowers IT support load because most staff already know Office apps, and the platform stays stable and supported.

Usability

Microsoft 365 Comfort at its finest

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft 365 for all our email and official documentation. The main problem that this address is that before everyone would use different document programs and this would cause formatting issues and issues with opening and editing a document. Now that everyone is using Microsoft 365 there are little to no formatting issues and you don't have to search for a downloadable program to open someones document.

Pros

  • Universal document types
  • All the programs are very well known by every one
  • Every seems to be using the programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc)

Cons

  • New Outlook is difficult to use compared to the old Outlook
  • sometimes too many options isn't a good thing
  • access to the address book in the new Outlook is impossible to use

Return on Investment

  • digital security of data
  • uniform documents
  • programs that everyone knows
