Modern and Robust Cloud Identity and Access Management Platform.

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Entra ID for security and compliance enhancements and to improve our productivity through MFA, SSO, and detailed access control. For the longest time, we had challenges managing multiple logins and securing user access. We used to maintain different passwords for different apps, which caused confusion and many password reset requests . This tool offered SSO that solved this issue of users sign once and have access to all our apps. Conditional access with MFA helps us block unauthorized access, providing strong security protection. Also, we like that it seamlessly integrates with our Microsoft systems, thus making identity and access management smooth and efficient.

Pros

  • Secure access of our system.
  • Conditional access policies.
  • Multi-factor authentication options.
  • Single sign-on (SSO) features.
  • Offer modern tool to address the challenges of cybersecurity.
  • Centralized authentication.

Cons

  • The price of licenses are a bit higher and everything needs an additional license.
  • When in non Microsoft environments, the integration is not smooth at all with some.
  • For effective use of the advanced features may require trainings which is an extra cost.

Likelihood to Recommend

Microsoft Entra ID provides powerful and reliable identity and access management capabilities that enhance secure authentication and authorization for cloud systems. Offer modern security features, including MFA, conditional access, and threat intelligence, to protect identities and prevent unauthorized access. Single Sign-On allows us to access multiple apps with just a single login.

Microsoft Entra ID the ideal Identity Provider

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft Entra ID is used in my organization to cover a number of use cases. It acts as our identity provider for many line of business applications. It also provides added security for authenticated users by implementing conditional access and behavioral risk base scenarios. It also provide authention for applications that need to access M365 resources. Microsoft Entra ID has roles that are used to manage users permissions for M365 and Azure resources.

Pros

  • Microsoft Entra ID is very good at using conditional access to limit where users can access resources from and in tandem with device compliance restricts access as well.
  • Using Microsoft Entra ID as a identity provider (IdP) to line of business applications is very reliable. Microsoft Entra ID is very resilient and is available most of the time. It is flexible in the it can be configurated for SAML and OIDC.
  • Microsoft Entra ID provides the ability to elevate user premissions with privilege access management and have additional features for Multi-factor authentication to add an additional layer of security.

Cons

  • There could be improvement with Microsoft Entra ID for logging. For example, sign-in logs are not available fast enough for troubleshooting events. There could be additional details added to the logs as well to make it easier for identifying exactly is causing a particular failure.
  • For Microsoft Entra ID there could be improvements with admin consent by have a report to review all consent in Microsoft Entra ID both Admin and User consents. There could be oversight for over privilege applications.

Likelihood to Recommend

My number one feature of Microsoft Entra ID that I think works really well is the Conditional Access feature. The additional protection that Conditional Access offers is amoung the best features of any identity provider there is in my opinion.

Microsoft Entra ID really the only option

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Entra ID to be the source of truth for all our identity needs. It allows us to create, change and delete users who pass through our organization, and provide access to those users authorized to do so. Microsoft Entra ID is easy to use once you have a bit of time in there, and although there are a few caveats, most of the time it's rock solid and makes identity and security a breeze.

Pros

  • Identity
  • Security
  • Conditional access
  • MFA

Cons

  • Documentation
  • Change management and control
  • Support

Likelihood to Recommend

Honestly, it's either Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, or an on-prem solution. Most of my experience is in the Microsoft realm, so I'm pretty comfortable in Microsoft Entra ID. It's a complete identity and Active Directory solution, with loads of features and options... You just need to pay for the licensing, which is definitely not cheap, but the E3 and especially E5 comes with very cool features.

We use Entra ID as our primary form of login authentication.

Pros

  • Security
  • Ease of Setup.
  • Ease of resetting users' 2FA.

It is well-suited for a hybrid or cloud environment. I would not suggest it for a company that solely uses on-premises authentication for logging into computers and email.

  • The Single Sign On works well - ensures fast access.
  • The tool ensures sensitive data protection.
  • Being cloud based, it makes identity and access management easy for both remote and hybrid teams.

Microsoft Entra ID Solid Identity Foundation

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft Entra ID is the backbone of our infrastructure. It has largely replaced on-premise AD and allows for identity management, authentication, and authorization across both local and cloud providers. Having one source of truth that allows for anywhere authentication and authorization has revolutionized the game for us while providing high levels of trust via 2FA.

Pros

  • Ease of Use
  • Ubiquitous Acceptance
  • Reliability
  • Compatibility

Cons

  • Access Sprawl
  • Tenant-to-Tenant Operations
  • Passwordless Rollout

Likelihood to Recommend

Entra ID is a must for any organization for medium to large size. It may be a little overkill for extremely small organizations. However, anyone who needs to authenticate and authorize via on-premise and cloud solutions would benefit from the product. One of its major strengths and areas it shines is in the ubiquitous acceptance of its SSO.

Solid identity management solution for companies working in the Microsoft ecosystem

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We leverage Microsoft Entra ID Premium as our primary identity and access management solution. Our implementation serves as the central authentication hub for our cloud ecosystem. We use Microsoft Entra ID as SSO to our CRM, ITSM and other core tools. We also utilize many security features of Entra ID. These include for example conditional access policies and enforcing MFA to our users. Most of our customers are also involved in our Microsoft Entra ID directory as guest users.

Pros

  • SAML-based sign-in that is supported for almost all other SaaS-services
  • Security features like MFA and conditional access policies
  • Hybrid infrastructure management and support
  • Automation possibilities with Powershell scripts

Cons

  • For larger organizations the policy management user interface gets complex
  • Security group nesting limitations - you cannot always nest groups within groups depending on the group types and use case
  • Price gets high if you need the enterprise or P2 premium licenses

Likelihood to Recommend

It is especially good for organizations that are otherwise in the Microsoft ecosystem (Microsoft 365 applications). Microsoft Entra ID is really well supported sign-in method in various SaaS-applications and they often have step-by-step guides how to deploy the SSO with Microsoft Entra ID. It's less suitable for organizations that might use other productivity tools than M365 or do not have Windows-based computers.

Entra does the job. Slowly and clunkily. But it does it.

Rating: 5 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have many AD domains hosted on our own hardware and synced with Entra ID primarily to enable SSO with Office 365, but also with various other services.

Being Microsoft, for 365 it is the simple solution. But as with anything Microsoft Cloud, every moment of using it is slow and painful. The website is so unresponsive it is like loading an image gallery on a 28800 modem in the 90s. But it does work.

Pros

  • Office 365 SSO
  • Easy sync with AD
  • Pretty good error logging and reporting.

Cons

  • Just the performance of the website. Every page, every click causes physical and emotional pain from my experience. You need to get a coffee between loading pages. Sometimes you click something and aren't even sure it registered because it is so slow to respond.
  • MS really don't want people using their own servers and DCs and more, so this will never happen. But it would be good for them to make it possible to sync from multiple DCs concurrently, providing live failover, rather than requiring one to be in staging mode and needing manual intervention if the primary DC is down.

Likelihood to Recommend

Generally Microsoft Entra ID is the default for people in my area of work, and an alternative is chosen when Microsoft Entra ID simply isn't viable. I'd say if you have a local DC and want easy SSO with 365, use it, but that's what people would probably do anyway. Once setup, adding additional SSO services is pretty straightforward, if you can get past the agony of how slow MS services are.

Microsoft Entra ID

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for everything for managing users, replacing Microsoft Entra ID, 2 factor authentication, RBAC, etc.

It is very good at being both very simple to use and very complex and nitty gritty when you need to buckle down to do something with it in regards to access.

It is also great that there are multiple ways to use it from the web ui or PowerShell.

We use it mostly as a replacement for Active Directory and have had no problems with it as well as for sharepoint access.

Pros

  • Authentication
  • SIgn-in logs
  • Granular access

Cons

  • The UI is always changing and is not always consistent with its changes
  • Better documentation for powershell commands
  • Make transitioning the admin portals with multiple accounts easier

Likelihood to Recommend

I would recommend Microsoft Entra ID if someone is looking for an easy way to manage users if they are already using Microsoft accounts and emails. This is because then it is an easy solution to implement monitoring for any activity as well as managing/creating/deleting new users along with access controls. It is maybe less appropriate if they use another email solution as it would be redundant and annoying as you will have to deal with multiple accounts.
