It addresses security and managing the accounts that we have, and where everybody goes and how everybody accesses Microsoft, it keeps everything organized for us.

Pros

I think it does well in the dashboard. I prefer how it organizes everything in its columns. And then it's easy to traverse the dashboard. It doesn't get confusing. When I'm clinging around things, and a lot of times with Microsoft, they're constantly improving things, and they'll change it on you, and then they'll get into it, and you're like, "Oh, this is new." But it makes it very simple to navigate.

Cons

The only area I would suggest is the name change. Microsoft rebrands a lot, but the apps do the same things, and it gets confusing. If you spend five years learning Microsoft Entra ID or its previous name, and then they change it, you have to adjust. Rebranding app names inside Microsoft Entra ID can be confusing, and the migration is slow. They're trying to upgrade things, but communication has improved a little.

Likelihood to Recommend

Based on my experience, I think Microsoft Entra ID will suit it in the business environment. I enjoy how it interconnects with a lot of things. Most recently, we're moving away from Zoom and trying to do Teams phones. So I think the integration of Microsoft Entra ID with pretty much every system allows it to connect pretty seamlessly. I think from browsers to apps, all the way around to phones and mobile devices. So I do enjoy that.

It addresses authentication. It addresses conditional access. When our users are trying to access a lot of the cloud and applications.

Pros

So what the product did vary was on the conditional access, where we could specifically specify which type of access would be allowed and which would not be allowed. That it does very, very well.

Cons

It was around MFAs where we use a product that Microsoft currently doesn't support, so it keeps a lot of false positives, that two-factor authentication is not there, but that's just one problem.

Best suited if your organization uses Microsoft pretty heavily, as it is a pretty seamless experience for users to log in and out.

We use Microsoft Entra ID for authentication. The product itself has no problem. The main problem is that people can use various types of authentication within their applications, and not having it all go through Android ID compromises security.

Sometimes I struggle with the Microsoft Authenticator when trying to log in with Microsoft Entra ID.

Pros

This works fine. Integrating with other solutions. And make it easy to have some visibility of the users and the connectivity as well.

Cons

There's so many add-ons in the solutions. I think if one major solution exists that includes all, it would be better.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The biggest one is access control across multiple environments. Not only the Microsoft 365 products, email, Teams, and other things like that, but also the connection to Azure, AWS, and VPNs. So basically, all organizational access.

Pros

A lot of it, again, is access control. It helps us control what access users have. For instance, one level of access that a user can access when going into Snowflake, right? Whether they can create reports or just read reports, and whether they can access certain reports. So granular regularity of access is what we're looking for.

Cons

I think it's a pretty good product. I like the groups. I think being able to put people into multiple groups, having access control, and turning people on and off are some of the biggest features. As far as missing functionalities, I can't think of anything right now because we use it so much.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's good for, enterprise, right? Where people need control and a lot of functionality and collaboration. It's not good if you want to do fast experimentation and give people a lot of power, because I guess it's a trade-off, security versus usability. If you want to give people a lot of control, you may not necessarily want much visibility into or control over what they do. So I would say R&D, not as much, but for a big enterprise, with security and compliance is important. And Microsoft is the absolute best.

It's easy to implement and manage, easy to integrate, and competitively priced. Whether an organization is 100% Microsoft-based, on-premises, or multi-cloud, Microsoft Entra ID can centralize identities and access, and now it's starting to incorporate agent management. Its integration capabilities allow for quick identification and analysis of any identity issues, which is truly beneficial.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We generally use Microsoft Entra ID as our Identity and Access Management solution for users, accounts, devices, and workloads in the cloud. For example we'll use Entra ID credentials for logging into our VMs in Azure. Or we'll use Entra ID for provisioning proper roles to different users or applications depending on scope (like Groups Administrator). We also use it as a Privileged Identity Management solution and time based role access.

Microsoft Entra ID is great for SSO and PIM. It works across a ton of different scenarios like RDP into VMs in Azure and generally provisioning laptops to users (easy enough to spin up a new workstation and have Entra be how we handle accounts and whatnot). It's also good for ensuring we don't have global admin access forever, since we do need to use it somewhat often. But it needs more customizable automation capabilities and an easier way to get reports/data from the platform. Also some pages are just buggy and hard to read/use.

We use Microsoft Entra ID for security and compliance enhancements and to improve our productivity through MFA, SSO, and detailed access control. For the longest time, we had challenges managing multiple logins and securing user access. We used to maintain different passwords for different apps, which caused confusion and many password reset requests . This tool offered SSO that solved this issue of users sign once and have access to all our apps. Conditional access with MFA helps us block unauthorized access, providing strong security protection. Also, we like that it seamlessly integrates with our Microsoft systems, thus making identity and access management smooth and efficient.

Single sign-on (SSO) features.
Offer modern tool to address the challenges of cybersecurity.
Centralized authentication.

Cons

The price of licenses are a bit higher and everything needs an additional license.
When in non Microsoft environments, the integration is not smooth at all with some.
For effective use of the advanced features may require trainings which is an extra cost.

Microsoft Entra ID is used in my organization to cover a number of use cases. It acts as our identity provider for many line of business applications. It also provides added security for authenticated users by implementing conditional access and behavioral risk base scenarios. It also provide authention for applications that need to access M365 resources. Microsoft Entra ID has roles that are used to manage users permissions for M365 and Azure resources.

Pros

Microsoft Entra ID is very good at using conditional access to limit where users can access resources from and in tandem with device compliance restricts access as well.
Using Microsoft Entra ID as a identity provider (IdP) to line of business applications is very reliable. Microsoft Entra ID is very resilient and is available most of the time. It is flexible in the it can be configurated for SAML and OIDC.
Microsoft Entra ID provides the ability to elevate user premissions with privilege access management and have additional features for Multi-factor authentication to add an additional layer of security.

Cons

There could be improvement with Microsoft Entra ID for logging. For example, sign-in logs are not available fast enough for troubleshooting events. There could be additional details added to the logs as well to make it easier for identifying exactly is causing a particular failure.
For Microsoft Entra ID there could be improvements with admin consent by have a report to review all consent in Microsoft Entra ID both Admin and User consents. There could be oversight for over privilege applications.

Likelihood to Recommend

My number one feature of Microsoft Entra ID that I think works really well is the Conditional Access feature. The additional protection that Conditional Access offers is amoung the best features of any identity provider there is in my opinion.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Entra ID to be the source of truth for all our identity needs. It allows us to create, change and delete users who pass through our organization, and provide access to those users authorized to do so. Microsoft Entra ID is easy to use once you have a bit of time in there, and although there are a few caveats, most of the time it's rock solid and makes identity and security a breeze.

Honestly, it's either Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, or an on-prem solution. Most of my experience is in the Microsoft realm, so I'm pretty comfortable in Microsoft Entra ID. It's a complete identity and Active Directory solution, with loads of features and options... You just need to pay for the licensing, which is definitely not cheap, but the E3 and especially E5 comes with very cool features.
