Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Mode is designed for data people. It is extremely flexible and fast, and you can turn your exploratory queries into professional looking visualizations easily. Mode supports analysis, visualization, data processing in R or Python notebooks, and report writing. I use Mode for everything, from jumping in to quickly answer a simple question to in-depth analytical projects to OKR reporting.

It's not designed for data engineering, like scheduling table creation, etc.

Mode is a clear category winner for how it easy it is to go from interactive analysis to professional quality reporting. You can easily do all your SQL and quite a bit of R/Python. If you want to quickly go from your database to simple charts, this is your pick. If you need to do heavier data modeling, scheduling jobs, or ML, you'll need something else, like Databricks. In my opinion, the quality of visualizations and some developer/analyst features make Databricks an unacceptable substitute.

It's not terribly user friendly. someone else had to be provided instruction on what we needed and they put it together
it could be more visually pleasing in terms of data consumption

It's well suited to showing raw charts of data, but so far I haven't seen visually-friendly windows into data (eg interactive charts and the like)

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Mode to monitor ongoing financial transactions written to our SQL data tables in real-time. Mode provides perhaps one of the really nice and standardized ways we are able to view transaction data from our users' activity as a fintech. Otherwise, we would have to view it from raw SQL data which can be quite "ugly".

Pros

It allows me to undertake data visualization tasks by creating really insightful charts and dashboards
It allows for easy sharing and work collaboration on data analysis tasks
Mode has an easier to use SQL editor as well
I love how it organizes all our SQL data tables into easy-to-view data we can draw insights on

Cons

I did not like that it does not give me a real-time refresh ability for the data we are fetching from our SQL data tables and I have to run my SQL script every time I needed to see the up-to-date data
I also did not like the fact that Mode is not optimized for mobile web view, this makes it use mostly desktop computer limited for me
Sometimes it has limited chart options when it comes to data visualization

Likelihood to Recommend

Mode is well suited for scenarios where one has to do queries in both SQL and R programming allowing for dynamic data pulls. This along with its ability to schedule reports allows for collaborative work with different teams. But unfortunately, it has limited options when it comes to visual charts. Mode also allows for seamless display of data. The SQL environment is quite intuitive and easy to use with chart-building and calculated fields tools stacked on top of the underlying query making the data more accessible to people who have limited SQL knowledge. Unfortunately, Mode can also be quite slow in handling larger data sets and its error handling is not as expansive as one may want.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my previous org, we used Mode as our cloud SQL editor tool for quick analysis which would be usually used by analytics folks who were SQL savvy.

Great for quick analysis and easy to set up and get going. I would not use it as an enterprise BI tool as it has quite a few limitations. Especially when it comes to massive data sets and being able to connect to various data sources.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Mode is a great BI tool for creating reports to pull, analyze, and visualize data. It was very helpful in identifying sore spots in our operations and pointing out where action needed to be taken. It is a reliable tool that is fast, user-friendly, and easily accessible by those who are less tech-forward as well.

Mode is well suited for creating reports that need to be viewed with relative frequency or reports that are difficult to run manually. Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Mode's white label embed feature, to power in-app reporting for our customers -- even going so far as doing rapid prototyping for them. We also use Mode Analytics to centralize, protect, and ease our team's access to data sources.

Pros

Easy to use (click a button and get right to SQL).
Security First (everything is locked down by default).
The White Label feature is super easy to skin -- our embedded reports look just like our app!

Cons

My only gripe is account management. The AM team turns over often, and every renewal is a fight, starting with a 40% price hike and ultimately getting whittled down to something reasonable.

Likelihood to Recommend

Mode Analytics is great for white label embedding (on one hand, the feature hasn't been improved much since we signed up; on the other -- it hasn't needed to improve) -- our reports look excellent. Mode Analytics is also great for a security-first analytics console. Click a button and get right to powerful SQL and Python tooling with your data.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Mode Analytics to set up custom dashboards for monitoring key business metrics, from customer sentiments and escalation statistics, to detailed app engagement data. The scope is typically limited to the web and in-app help/support sections of the experience. It's particularly helpful for monitoring project impact after deploying significant changes to the product.

Date ranges aren't always the most intuitive to set, strangely
Faster refresh rates would be ideal
Would love more dynamic mobile device integration (alerts, etc)

Likelihood to Recommend

After launching a new contact pathway in a help experience, Mode Analytics can help provide insight into the sentiments from users as well as the engagement with any written content. Numeric outputs are easier to manage, whereas more nuanced/emotional feedback is sometimes hard to quantify (though not impossible if you get creative).

Mode Analytics is our main source of querying from our databases. We can pull data using PrestoSQL (Trino), visualize different metrics for trends, create quick dashboards for stakeholders, and even incorporate more sophisticated R or Python logic via their built-in notebook tool.

Mode is great for speed and presentation. If you have a business idea, want to see a data prototype to validate your hunch, and need something to easily pull a few lines of SQL code and build a dashboard, Mode is a perfect solution. It's also a tool that allows for easy dashboard sharing. It does not have some of the nuances offered by Tableau but wins out in simplicity/intuitiveness. If you're looking for high-level modeling/forecasting, however, Mode comes up a bit short. Anything requiring a lot of processing power should be moved to a dedicated notebook/programming environment.

We use Mode Analytics in our company when we need an easy way to access the data combined with the flexibility of using Python to perform advanced analysis. The uses range from marketing analytics to customer behavior, and we might use it for fraud analytics. The department that uses it is the research department, where engineers and data scientists have the knowledge required to use it.

For any data scientists or engineers willing to do advanced analytics. The simple analytics in it are hard to do. And business users with no knowledge of SQL will have a problem to even get started. The availability of Python and JS will give advanced users a lot of flexibility without the need to learn anything new. IT will just streamline access to data and management of notebook versions.
