What is Privy?
Privy is an ecommerce marketing platform that combines onsite displays, email, and SMS (text message) marketing with automated flows, so small teams can collect subscribers and send campaigns from one list. It connects to online store platforms to sync contacts, products, coupons, carts, and orders.
Key Capabilities
- Onsite displays: Display types include popups, flyouts, banners, bars, embedded forms, landing pages, spin-to-win, cart savers, cross-sell popups, multi-step forms, and quizzes. Displays support audience targeting, exit-intent triggers, A/B testing, and coupons.
- Email campaigns: A drag-and-drop editor with ecommerce templates can insert products and discount codes. Smart and Custom Segments target sends, and email sends are unlimited. Sending-domain setup covers SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication.
- SMS campaigns: Text campaigns and automated messages with audience targeting and reporting. Messages use a credit system: in the United States and Canada, one credit per SMS segment and three per MMS (multimedia message). On the Growth Plan, an account must pass toll-free number verification before it can collect textable contacts or send texts.
- Flows: Automated email and SMS journeys start from a trigger such as a cart abandonment or an order. Templates include Welcome, Abandoned Cart, Checkout Abandonment, Browse Abandonment, Purchase Follow Up, Customer Winback, Back in Stock, and Special Occasion. Journeys are built from steps for email, SMS, delay, conditional split, contact tagging, and contact suppression. Audience filters, entry frequency, and exit criteria control who enters and leaves.
- Reporting: Reports cover opens, clicks, and revenue across campaigns and flows. The vendor also lists send-time optimization.
- Integrations: Documented connections include Shopify, BigCommerce, and Wix, which sync contacts and coupons and enable onsite displays. A custom storefront integration uses webhooks for signup and order events and a REST API with OAuth 2.0 and API token authentication. The vendor states that collected contacts can also sync to select third-party platforms, including Klaviyo. A read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server lets Claude, ChatGPT, or another agent inspect an account but not send messages or change settings.
- Consent and compliance: Privy's terms limit email to contacts who have given marketing consent. The knowledge base covers email and SMS consent rules, list health, and deliverability.
- Pricing structure: The vendor lists email plans by mailable contacts, starting at $30 per month for up to 1,500 contacts. Pop-ups-only plans are priced by monthly page views, starting at $24 per month for up to 10,000 views. SMS is billed in monthly credits. A 15-day free trial is listed. Migration assistance is offered.
