BigCommerce A solid B2B Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

BigCommerce is our B2B website that handles 100% of our customer transactions. It's an easy one-stop shop, and has B2B features that support large chains (e.g. Sr./Jr. Buyer)

Pros

  • Their B2B portal is set up for larger chains who have complex buying systems
  • Their templates are well thought out and easy to use and implement into the market place
  • Pretty good and responsive customer service

Cons

  • Although solid, they still struggle with their B2B module. Not a lot of expertise in this part of the biz
  • Sometimes their responsiveness to "glitches" in their system is slow.
  • Sometimes when they roll out new features, they have bugs, so we're never too eager to adopt their new features until some time has passed. Sometimes will feel like the guinea pigs.

Return on Investment

  • We've grown every year 15%+ for the last 4 years. BigCommerce has been an important reason for this growth.
  • The user interface is pretty intuitive, so we have most of our employees using BigCommerce for a wide variety of instances.
  • The cost of ownership for BC is very reasonable.

BigCommerce Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Moved away from Magento because of the work involved with upkeep. Switching to BigCommerce saved me a ton of time from constantly having to update for security. Have had 99.9999% uptime.

Pros

  • Security
  • Speed
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Returns working for buyer portal
  • Avalara tax exempt connection
  • Ability to tokenize and vault guest checkout

Return on Investment

  • It saved me time on upkeep
  • Easy update on frontend
  • Minimized downtime

Not worth it go with Shopify.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used BigCommerce as our primary web hosting tool. Back-end product management included creating product pages, writing copy for those product pages, managing pricing, managing inventory for all the products hosted on the web store, as well as analytics for the performance of the entire website, such as abandoned cart rate and other metrics.

Pros

  • Decent modern interface.
  • Easy to remember the name.
  • Didn’t mind the logo.

Cons

  • Analytics was super hard to use.
  • Limited insights.
  • UI was laggy.

Return on Investment

  • More abandoned carts since it took so long to load most times.
  • Took a long time to do basic tasks, so updating inventory numbers took 5 minutes instead of 30 seconds.

Not worth the money.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used BigCommerce as our main e-commerce store for many years. Throughout all those years, our company experienced a lack of support and features. Anytime we had an idea to switch things up or add an app, we met several roadblocks. It was heard too often in our office, "We can't do that because BigCommerce doesn't support it." When we switched to another major e-commerce host, we had no lack of support or features. During the transition, we reached out to confirm we could go month-to-month with BigCommerce, and they said they would not lock us into a contract. However, when we reached out to go month-to-month, they said they could no longer offer that deal, and we were forced into a year-long contract. Overall, we are very disappointed with BigCommerce's services.

Pros

  • Traps customers into contracts.
  • Limit features to give your store an older look and feel.
  • Ignoring requests for support.

Cons

  • Keeping their word.
  • Offer more features.
  • Give helpful support.

Return on Investment

  • Doubled our operations cost for one year.
  • Limited site innovation due to limitations deterring some customers.
  • Limited fraud protection forcing increased operation costs.

Fantastic scalable solution for growing businesses with the flexibility to pivot with your needs

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BigCommerce for a B2B ordering portal for our distribution customers and brands. We did have it set up as a normal ecommerce website but after a couple years of use we have transitioned to what worked best for our customers and made the change that suited them more.

Pros

  • Product showcase - Each one is easy to work with and set up
  • Management - Overall management of the site is easy
  • Stability - I have never had an issue with the site being unaccessable

Cons

  • Improved group management - e.g. Assign only this group of customers to be able to see tis category, currently its the opposite and you have to change all other customers to not see it
  • Easier controls for managing access around the website
  • Mass product changes, Mainly images en mass

Return on Investment

  • We have managed to optimize the team who manage the site down to 3 people instead of the 15 the previous store took to run
  • the hours spent updating reduced drastically one we built tools to help make changes on mass ready for upload
  • cost of running is significantly lower
