What is Riverside.fm?

Riverside.fm headquartered in Tel Aviv offers a remote recording solution for enterprise teams. It is presented as an easy way for teams to record professional-grade video content and podcasts, from anywhere.

Categories & Use Cases

Imperfect but very promising!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Riverside.fm is the new technology partner with Spotify for Podcasters, replacing their native tools with a robust platform incorporating video and audio recording, editing, transcribing, and more. Because of this integration, I have begun using Riverside.fm to create podcast episodes for my show, Discover Music With AnEarful, which seeks to shine a light on the finest music of our time through samples from recent releases.

Pros

  • Great looking platform with a handsome layout.
  • Makes it easy to invite interviewees into your "studio"
  • Provides livestream capabilities

Cons

  • Unable to upload multiple files at once
  • For the beginner, while the layout looks good it is somewhat opaque as to how to get started
  • Free account features an immovable tile asking for $15/month.

Return on Investment

  • As it was imposed on us by Spotify, it's slowed production as we get up to speed with a tool that's more complex than what they initially provided.
  • As we gain experience with the platform, we hope that it will lead to a better overall end-product.

Great product. WORST support I've ever seen.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

For making podcasts and distributing them. Riverside helps me conduct remote podcasting and their platform actually does a great job of giving me all the tools I need to edit, produce and distribute it.

Pros

  • Recording Podcasts
  • Editing Podcasts
  • Distributing Podcasts

Cons

  • Account management is next to nothing
  • Support is the worst I've ever come across.

Return on Investment

  • Since I need their platform, which again is actually pretty good, I had to waste money to sign up again, so that I had a workable password.
  • from experience, wasted weeks of going back and forth with their support team - throwing off my podcast schedule.

Riverside.fm is the best product for getting good video over the internet.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Riverside.fm when recording content with remote guests. When recording with all employees, I can have a system and a location for them to record on their own camera and upload the file so that I can download and have all recordings in one place to edit the episode. When we have a guest on I want the process to be as easy for them as possible, so using Riverside.fm I can send them a link for them to connect, and once they are done and their file is uploaded, they can disconnect and don't have to worry about anything else.

Pros

  • very easy to use
  • great to have all video files in one location automatically
  • the backup audio files are perfect to download and make sure all files are synced up for editing
  • it's easy to get on as a producer and be there to help everyone else who is recording without being recorded myself.

Cons

  • I have had some times where there are video glitches, and I have been told that it could be because of other software running. It would be good if the software were more robust and able to more consistently get smooth video.
  • I have had a couple instances of people being kicked off and their video files were not recoverable.

Return on Investment

  • It is a very affordable tool for what it does.
  • It saves a lot of time that would be used to help people get their video files to you over the internet.
  • It allows the producer to be in charge of everything and the internal people who are the "actors" on the programs to just worry about being the star and not having to learn all the technical parts of recording videos.
