Imperfect but very promising!
Overall Satisfaction with Riverside.fm
Riverside.fm is the new technology partner with Spotify for Podcasters, replacing their native tools with a robust platform incorporating video and audio recording, editing, transcribing, and more. Because of this integration, I have begun using Riverside.fm to create podcast episodes for my show, Discover Music With AnEarful, which seeks to shine a light on the finest music of our time through samples from recent releases.
Pros
- Great looking platform with a handsome layout.
- Makes it easy to invite interviewees into your "studio"
- Provides livestream capabilities
Cons
- Unable to upload multiple files at once
- For the beginner, while the layout looks good it is somewhat opaque as to how to get started
- Free account features an immovable tile asking for $15/month.
- As it was imposed on us by Spotify, it's slowed production as we get up to speed with a tool that's more complex than what they initially provided.
- As we gain experience with the platform, we hope that it will lead to a better overall end-product.
StreamYard may have fewer capabilities than Riverside.fm, but it knows exactly what it is: a place to record/stream video conversations. Riverside.fm, in trying to be all things to all users, may need to improve its UI to serve all constituents.
