[...] manages more than 10 websites catering to different regions across the globe. The built-in multi-language support allows us to serve content in various languages such as English, French, Dutch, Chinese, Malay, and more. XM Cloud as a SAAS solution eliminates the need for costly upgrade projects and infrastructure maintenance. The requirements for expertise are reduced due to optimized system architecture. The fresh content authoring user interface that is both modern and reliable makes it easier to deliver content with Page Editor’s WYSIWYG (“what-you-see-is-what-you-get”) authoring experience. The solution facilitates a faster time to market thanks to the seamless integration between XM Cloud and Vercel, allowing the setup of a website infrastructure with a single click of a button.

Pros

  • Multi-Lingual content
  • Multi-Site support
  • Page Builder
  • Personalization
  • Vercel Integration

Cons

  • Content changes logging

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our business currently hosts two websites with the Sitecore Digital Experience Platform. The corporate website hosts valuable information for our prospective members. These members are currently undertaking the course and provide continuous professional development training throughout their careers until retirement. It is an obvious website for all our member audiences with different journey stages and segments. Our other website provides excellent editorial articles for both the finance and accounting industries, with collaborators/contributors/authors within the industry giving valuable insights. It is an award-winning website.

Pros

  • Flexible layout management in Experience Management (XM).
  • Headless Architecture.
  • Multi lingual and multi site support.
  • Content Hub's big offering.
  • Experience Edge.
  • CDP's flexible external connectivity.
  • Personalize
  • Connect with Wokato iPaaS platform.

Cons

  • Workflows for a page and the associated components can be better in XM.
  • An OOTB Content Review schedule/process.
  • Automatic publishing that works with the Publishing Restrictions with dates in XM.
  • Cache Tuning and Database tuning have been left to implementers to implement in XM.
  • Sitecore Search, when comparing to Coveo, is not quite there.
  • The implementation team seems to need to build connectivity between various products.
  • More showcase of Content Hub CMP and PCM features are needed.
  • XM Cloud seems entirely locked into a particular way of doing things. Potentially making existing migration from XM/XP to XM Cloud challenging.
  • More support for Sitecore Forms Embeddable Framework and more examples are required. Conditional logic and other custom-built components can be complicated and tricky.

Sitecore offers Content Hub with Product Content Management and Content Management Platform. The Digital Experience Platform and Content Hub can both host structured content and publish the finalized version to Experience Edge. Both platforms offer different ways to manage content. During a technical and business evaluation, the evaluation panel must understand the difference between a Content Modelling focused approach, or a layout management focused approach. Sitecore Digital Experience Platform is also best not to be used to host many files and images in the Media Library. That responsibility should be offloaded to a digital asset management company like Sitecore Content Hub DAM. The technology evaluation panel must also understand how to work with a Headless CMS, where the HEAD needs to be hosted, and the costs associated with the HEAD. Composable DXP is fantastic, but everyone must understand the various cost components. Marketers and the data team will need to go into the CDP and Personalize the platform with an excellent understanding of how a composable "installation" works. All the Martech vendors have similar challenges that data and development teams need to work through with a full experience. Any CDP/analytics platform will, at some stage, require further data enrichment from other sources. Understanding the Sitecore Search features and limitations is also essential.

The Ideal Solution for Scalable Enterprise-Grade Implementations

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I've used Sitecore XM, XP, XM Cloud, CDP, Personalize, Connect and Send for several digital transformation projects. The platform is highly flexible - both customizable and extendable - making it adaptable to any customer needs or requirements. Having worked with other DXP platforms, I find Sitecore to be the most suitable for enterprise-level clients. Sitecore's recent acquisitions and product offerings have been exceptional, and we've had great success with multiple implementations using these new products.

Pros

  • Comprehensive Solution: Sitecore offers a fully integrated suite of products that cover the full spectrum of DXP capabilities, including search, personalization experimentation and more, delivering a complete composable DXP solution for customers.
  • Beyond Headless: XM Cloud provides more than just headless capabilities, featuring in-built tools like authoring host, page editor, etc., enabling faster and more powerful implementations.
  • Focus on AI: Sitecore has now got an excellent AI offering called Stream; it looks promising; however, it would be too early to give feedback on the same.
  • Customization: Sitecore's backend is highly customizable, allowing for deep modifications through pipelines and patch configurations.

Cons

  • Sitecore products integrate well with each other but not much outside the ecosystem.
  • There were a few hiccups in the support experience earlier, but we're seeing solid improvements with the new leadership in place.

Likelihood to Recommend

Having worked with other DXP platforms, I find Sitecore to be the most suitable for enterprise-level clients. The platform is highly flexible - both customizable and extendable - making it adaptable to any customer needs or requirements. The platform focuses on the success of both marketing and technical teams, which I don't see on other platforms.

Sitecore DXP is the right choice for complex enterprise initiatives

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Sitecore DXP has been used within our client organizations to manage content in a centralized location and also provide opportunities for delivering meaningful content to end-users. The platform offers a wide range of tools to make this happen which can either be deployed all at once, or as needed when business requirements call for it. Even if some of add-ons are not initially in-scope, it's good to know that there is a seamless integration available to make expansion and refinement possible.

Pros

  • The platform can be customized to fit specific business requirements
  • There are numerous integrations available
  • The platform handles any scale content needs with ease

Cons

  • The learning curve is very steep
  • Most platforms require a specific skillset
  • Although the interface can be customized, it is often not intuitive to build out a template or page. Drag and drop doesn't work as well as it could.

Likelihood to Recommend

Sitecore DXP would be very useful in situations where the business needs:

- Personalization journeys

- Large-scale content management (i.e. high traffic websites, 100K+ digital assets, AI-enabled support)

- Complex content management (components, taxonomy, workflows, roles)

- Customized authoring experiences

It would not be as practical for:

- Small scale websites (not cost effective)

- Simple, out of the box functionality

- Specific tech stack resources

Positioning Sitecore as the leading product in the market.

  • Never limited to do any kind of customizations to the platform, we integrated our custom ecommerce into the CMS
  • Out of the box Multilingual support combined with versioning and workflows makes it an ideal tool for content authoring and management
  • Analytics, Marketing automation and delivering personalized content to your users makes it the most power CMS out there.

Cons

  • Experience Editor is a little old fashioned and sometimes slow to use.
  • Bulk operations in the Content Editor
  • Sitecore serialization is should be part of the Content Editor to provide visual reference for items which are serialized and will be overwritten by future deployments similar to what Unicorn does so well

Likelihood to Recommend

Sitecore is built for enterprise and works best in complicated situations where you need advanced content management capabilities with multilingual support and integration/customizations with other internal/external systems as per your business needs. If you are just planning to build a few simple content pages in a single language then it's like bringing a tank to a gunfight.

I feel every product will have it's drawbacks but when compared with other DXPs, Sitecore with it's ease of use and enterprise CMS stands out.

Apart from the CMS, the Sitecore XP platform offers an easy way to create personalized experiences, perform A/B Testing both at the page and component level, create forms and other digital marketing capabilities making life easy for a Content Author and a Digital Marketer while also offering flexibility and ease of development for a Developer.

Pros

  • Strong search functionality.

Cons

  • Sitecore Content Hub (DAM) could have additional functionality to be more comprehensive as a campaign operations tool for multithreaded campaign management.
  • Sitecore Order Cloud is SO flexible (is it too flexible?) that an OOTB implementation could be more opinionated and easier to stand up from scratch.

Likelihood to Recommend

Sitecore XM/XP or XMCloud are great solutions for building high performing, well governed web sites. Whether you want to leverage an onPrem (private cloud, PaaS) implementation or a SaaS implementation, Sitecore can be a great solution for you. It has strong access controls for user accounts and permissions for content editing, approvals and workflows and permits complete flexibility with regards to design of a UI laying on top of the framework. It has strong MVC and Headless design patterns from a coding standpoint and the two can be used in parallel for different use cases required in today's web world.
