It is used for our everyday POS system. It is amazing at being custom, modular, and a fit for just about any business. The flexibility of the equipment to work anywhere, including in the middle of a field, is absolutely pivotal. We use this from weddings to music festivals and has been the main resource for our company for over a decade.
Pros
Invoices
Cash Sales
Portable sales
Cons
Editing interface from the website instead of having to use an ipad
Some tab limits are extremely difficult to monitor
User permissions, allowing users to have codes to access certain sectors without having to use device codes.

Best suited for anyone that is needing to sell something. Whether that be in a brick and mortar location, or selling at an event in the middle of a field, Square for Retail is an amazing asset for not only just the sale of goods, but also the inventory, store management, people management, etc. It may not be the best fit for restricted industries such as cannabis.
This was used for a small, single-location store. Square for Retail was got to help us manage our inventory, point of sales items, and sales performance. Our store had a lot of SKUs and there was a good amount of new SKUs that would come in and Square for Retail was easy to use for updates in those situations.
Pros
Inventory management
Analytics
Cons
Customer support - sometimes was difficult to get answers
The connection to our AP portal

If you are a small business that is in need of a payments platform, inventory management and some analytical performance, Square for Retail is a great solution. If you work within a larger organization that you will want to see a stronger connection with your account payable portal this may not be the best solution for your business.
I use Square for retail on my e-commerce website to process online payments next to PayPal. Square for Retail makes it very easy for me to collect credit card payments on my website without having to worry about saving and storing people's credit card information. I like the security of not having personal credit card information of other people to worry about securing. The process of collecting payments and transferring money is very easy as well.
Pros
ease of collecting payments
transfer money collected to other accounts
using Square card to access money collected as payments on my website
Cons
I can not transfer money directly from Square to PayPal, that would be very helpful
A mobile app that you can use to manage all the things you can manage on the website.
more ways to get fee free transactions.

<div>Square for retail is great to use alongside WooCommerce to accept credit card payments on your e-commerce website.</div><div>Square for Retail works with a very easy to use card scanner that works with your phone, so it is great if you are selling items at an event like a conference, a farmers market, or an art fair. It is very easy and useful for the small business person who wants easy credit card processing either in person or online.
We use Square for Retail as our main POS system for in-person payments, as well as our scheduling and payment collection system for appointments that are booked and delivered online. As a company providing life coaching and hypnotherapy services, it is key that we are able to manage appointments and charge for services online, as well as in person. It is great that Square allows us to do both in one system while adding calendar management too.
Pros
POS payment collection
Appointment setting and management
Online payment collection
Cons
Speed of fund transfer/availability
Website look and feel
Collecting payment for events/ticket sales

Square for retail is a great tool for small businesses that need to consolidate POS and online transactions, particularly if the services provided require setting an appointment, Square offers a single place where services can be managed, charged for (in person or online) and customers can make appointments to receive such services. As a facility that offers individual appointments with customers, it is very important that appointment management and billing are done in the same system. Square might not be well-suited for larger business or for companies that already have a POS system for in-person billing (unless they are willing to migrate to Square).

It is used for a good portion of the orders the company receives. It makes the purchasing of the product, via wholesale orders easier to execute and manage. Some customer orders are also done via Square. Most customer orders are done through Woo Commerce though. I have also used square for in-person retail at previous employers.
Pros
Wholesale orders
Online sales
In person retail
Donation receiving via door-to-door fundraising
Cons
Ability to set orders to "in process" vs just "unpaid" and "paid"
More efficient readers
More detailed invoices

Square for retail is well suited for mom and pop shops, pop up stores, farmer's markets, door-to-door fundraising, flea markets, etc. It is not well suited for big box stores, fancy restaurants, places that only accept cash, etc. Overall, most places that take a card should be able to use Square.
We use Square to checkout in person point of sale. It helps us take card payments with fair transaction fees and makes it very convenient for our customers and users in turn. Not only does Square offer an easy to use physical reader, but the person doing the point of sale transaction can also run the card number using the app.
Pros
Point of sale transactions
Ease of use and convenient payment method for customers
Receipts and transaction records for the business and customers
Multiple ways to pay
Fair transaction fees
Cons
Add support for Apple Pay and other contactless payment methods faster
Likelihood to Recommend
Square for Retail is well suited for any business that needs a point of sale payment system for running credit or debit cards and to make it easier for customers to pay and provide fair transaction fees for the business taking said payment. It is perfect even for Internet based businesses because it integrates with online checkout forms and makes accounting and records very easy, and fees are competitive with other payment leaders in the space such as Stripe.

We are a single store, specialty Hearth and Home retail. We sell hundreds if not thousands of SKUs and everything goes through Square for Retail, from our purchasing to our inventory management, to point of sale, timeclock, and performance analytics. Square provides us with a comprehensive tool [that] makes our business run more smoothly, by tracking inventory, and looking at sales trends.
Pros
Customer Management - Great to be able to track specific needs of specific customers.
Inventory management - Awesome to be able to see a snapshot of our levels.
Estimating and Invoicing - So helpful to be able to track close rates of estimates, and to be able to offer terms and milestones on invoicing high dollar tickets.
Reporting - Square offers fantastic comparative reporting, as well as trends, profitability, and various other data-driven reports.
Cons
Serialization - I wish that Square for Retail had the ability to Serialize items. We sell hot tubs in our store, and Square has no ability to add a Serial Number to a Specifically received product. For example, if I get a truck of 10 Hot Tubs, there may be 3 on that truck that [is] exactly the same. It would be great to be able to allocate a serial number to each spa, and then allocate that serial number and spa to a customer once it was purchased.
Square for Retail's HelpDesk leaves something to be desired. It can be very difficult to get ahold of a customer service rep by calling the 1800 number for tech services. This caused a massive problem for us starting out but was remedied by Square having a dedicated Rep at our disposal. I have his direct line, and he gives us much help when we need it.
I suppose I would like to see a more "All-Inclusive" product, something that would provide its own Accounts Payable portal, rather than need to integrate with Quickbooks. We love QB but the interface between Square for Retail and QB is not ideal, particularly with high volume. Maybe this is something we just need more education on, but it seems clunky.

Square for Retail is simple, easy to account for, and serves most purposes that a business like ours needs. There are very few drawbacks once it's up and running. For a company like ours who wants to emphasize experience from the time the customer walks in the door to the time they walk out, and where cost is important, Square for Retail provides an awesome interface for the customer, with attractive, easy to use terminals, and a very accessible price point where we can get set up with a clean, attractive, and functional point of sale system while starting up. We have no intentions of moving away from Square for Retail as long as it maintains its quality and support.
We use Square for needs within our Development/fundraising department. Since you can use the app on your phone with or without the device, it makes it easy to accept donations while out and about. We use it mainly at our fundraising events for donations or chance drawing purchases. And since more than one person can be logged in at any time, we can have a team working the room. We can use it for other needs within the organization, but it mainly addresses needs within the one department.
Pros
Easy to use.
The app can be downloaded to any phone.
Can do some customization.
Can be used with or without the reader.
Cons
This may just be me, but I want some additional customizations for our biggest annual fundraiser, so that we can differentiate between donations, chance drawings, etc.

The Square app is always on my phone, so it is easy for me to take donations on the spot or process donations easily after an event where donor info is provided. I will be upgrading our readers this year to the "chip" version to make it easier at our November fundraiser. Sometimes I have donors call me to give a donation over the phone. Square makes the process so easy. It doesn't capture donor info, so I am prepared to do that separately. The emails from each transaction arrive quickly. Pulling reports is easy within their dashboard.
