Talend is used in our company for innovative projects that require a versatile tool. It also integrates the entire perimeter regarding data quality on the analytical perimeter thanks to the connection with all the main data sources, it allows to integrate the different realities with simplicity and stability, unlike other much more complex ETL tools

Likelihood to Recommend

It is certainly suitable for agile and innovative projects. For developments that require particular steps and with a simple debug. On the other hand, it is not very suitable for producing flows that move large amounts of data and that require a lot of resources and great stability.

We are using Talend for the second time in our company for an ETL project. This software has been used once before in a previous project with Big Data and Mapr. It is said to be powerful but is full of strange bugs and the company is encountering problems with the maven repository. Sometimes it freezes a lot even on a powerful PC (I7 laptop).

Likelihood to Recommend

Talend is created for ETL, data integration and Big Data, but running for four rendundant modules. One program that joins all of these in one module would be awesome. It can be great for infographics, but since it is based on Java, it is full of errors. I don't think it is well suited for data mining scenarios.

Talend is used by parts of my company mainly in the integration team. We use it to move data between various systems such as FTP, Oracle DB, DB2, MDM, CRM. We move data on a schedule and on demand. We use Talend Open Studio to sync data between various systems. We also use Talend jobs to backup some important files which are generated part of other ETL jobs.

Likelihood to Recommend

For quick daily integrations Talend is a very good tool and it makes development time so short and easy. Citizen developers who are not great programmers can pick up and start using Talend Open Studio within weeks. It's well suited for all kinds of data migration between various systems.

It is less appropriate for smaller synchronous services where you need to trace the complete transaction and how data moved between them. It's also less appropriate for small data movements where other tools can be easier to use and manage.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We helped several customers implement Talend for data migration and integration. We have used it mainly for migrating the data to <a rel="noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.trustradius.com/products/salesforce-com/reviews">Salesforce</a> with various other systems like Oracle, <a rel="noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.trustradius.com/products/mysql/reviews">MySQL</a>, FTP (File-based integration/ migration), etc. It does provide a lot of predefined functionality out of the box along with providing the facility to use complex java code for developers. I mainly like it for small data utilities. It does provide a lot of control for developers.

Well suited if you want to perform small data utilities as it provides good control to developers. Support of Java means you can perform a complex transformation. Not a very good experience when handling a large volume of data, however, it depends on a lot of other factors like system specifications etc. But still felt like a scope for improvement.

Talend Open Studio is used by the business to implement data quality checks in pipeline. A great benefit that Talend offers over other similar tools like Informatica, is that Talend allows us to write our own components using Java, instead of being limited to using predefined components in the palette. Talend also offers big data integration, which is extremely useful for businesses that handle large volumes of data.

If you need to design the data flow architecture while working with big data tools, Talend Open Studio is a great way to do so. This is also true for designing data quality checks and monitoring real time data flow.

On the other hand, I would not recommend using Talend for handling less volume of data or for performing trivial or fewer data operations.

Talend Open Studio is one of the best integration tools I have used. It has a lot of options to integrate data from. Also, Talend can be connected to Tableau and other business intelligence tools in order to get a better visibility. The error tracking and troubleshooting are much better and help to easily identify the problems.

Talend is best with its UI and is easy to use. I have solved a business case with the transformation components, and also used the Talend error handling and exception components. It works best and gives easy solutions without much coding involved.

I used Talend Open Studio to implement integration processes. In one advanced use case, I used it to retrieve employee details via multiple web service methods and combine that data with other sources with the goal of providing required data to the payroll system to complete the onboarding of employees. In another use case, I queried pricing daily data of commodities via a web service method call to provide historical pricing data and visualization of the multi-year pricing histories.

Likelihood to Recommend

Single or small development teams suit Talend Open Studio well, as do complex integration projects that are likely to start, go to back burner for a week or two, then resume.

It is used by the data services/data engineering team. We built our data warehouse using Talend. We also use it to lay the data pipelines across various systems.

I believe that Talend Open Studio is best suited when there is a budget constraint or if the analyst or developer has limited coding experience.
