Categories & Use Cases

Best in class Enterprise Managed WordPress Hosting.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WP Engine as our primary host for our website and for many of our client websites as well. We are an agency partner and work closely alongside them to provide the best quality WordPress hosting with a fully managed service that provides best-in-class security and performance, along with great support.

Pros

  • Top notch support for their customers and especially their partners.
  • Listen well to feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Daily automated backups.
  • Fantastic smart plugin manager solution.
  • Enterprise-level security.

Cons

  • Cloudflare integration could expose more capabilities from Cloudflare that Enterprise customers might find useful.
  • More all included Enterprise hosting packages rather than add-on piece meal pricing.
  • Better ways for granting agencies access to client accounts for adding and removing developers.

Return on Investment

  • WP Engine provides worry free maintenance and security solutions due to their managed service reducing overhead on managing servers.
  • WP Engine offers solutions for automating a lot of maintenance tasks that would normally require a development team to accomplish, reducing the hours needed to support a site.
  • WP Engine makes site transfers and migrations a breeze by all of their built in tools. Tasks that would take significantly longer on other platforms take a lot less time on WP Engine.
  • WP Engine's local development software saves time on setting up local environments for developers.

Comprehensive Hosting for WordPress Websites.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As an agency, we build websites of all page counts and complexities for our customers, ranging from single-page promotion sites and complex multipage e-commerce or transactional sites. After having some site security issues with another hosting provider, we needed a secure, well-supported solution for our high-end e-commerce sites. We also did not have the resources to manage the full setup and server maintenance ourselves, as with an AWS solution. Since the sites were built in WordPress, we considered WP Engine among others. We were able to meet with them to explain what we needed, and they worked out an affordable package for our company.

Pros

  • The team of account managers at WP Engine worked closely with us during the onboarding period to make sure we got everything up and running quickly and smoothly.
  • The WP Engine platform not only gives the usual automated alerts for outdated plugins and general website issues, but it also has a dedicated team that will contact you if there are any server or account-related anomalies. This extra layer of protection helped us to deal with potential issues early and avoid server downtime.
  • Account administration is easy to manage with WP Engine. Being able to add users and assign them different roles and access rights to certain environments was a feature we couldn't get from other providers. Having everyone with their own logins is important for accountability and security monitoring.
  • WP Engine also has stable package pricing with no price hikes for us since we first signed up. Hopefully, this continues.

Cons

  • We have experienced some issues with WP Engine's integrated CDN with a few websites. There were instances where the current version of the site was being pushed out to the CDN. This resulted in people seeing different versions of the site depending on where in the world they were. We ended up resolving this ourselves by turning off the CDN for that site once we figured it out. It happened with other sites later, which points to some recurring issue there.
  • For the CDN issues, the WP Engine tech team kept telling us that it must be a user error because their team could see the correct version. Even though we explained that persons seeing different versions was a part of the problem, they did not go any further in trying to help us resolve it. We expected better technical troubleshooting from a hosting provider.
  • The legal issues between WP Engine and WordPress also affected our websites and caused us downtime. Anyone considering using this service needs to stay up-to-date with the current court proceedings.

Return on Investment

  • For the most part, having stability and security for our e-commerce website, customers has resulted in higher overall customer satisfaction for those in this category.
  • The managed server environment meant that we did not have to invest in our own technical team just to keep the infrastructure running.
  • Unfortunately, the current legal issue affected a few customers, which caused some dissatisfaction before it could be rectified. There is a concern that this could happen again before the issue is resolved.
