Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Acrobat

In my opinion, Acrobat is the DeFacto standard when dealing with PDFs in a business context. The Pro version is used to edit PDFs and to convert other document types into PDFs. The Reader version is more limited and so far free. The Pro version does have a variable cost depending on licensing. The business problem that Acrobat solves is the conversion of other file types into PDFs. Yes, Word Excel and Outlook all can save in PDF format but the humans I have to support don't want to use other more efficient methods. The only upside of the free Reader version is that it can be deployed from the MS app store via InTune. The Pro version is also pushable but requires more time and effort from SystemAdmins. Are there other software options? Absolutely. Are they better or feature complete compared to Acrobat? Mostly yes, but its a really hard sell to get a medium or large organization to use something like FoxIt because while it does everything Acrobat does, it looks different and the menus are different and the humans don't like change and cannot adapt to different software even if their very lives depended on it.

Pros

  • Opens a PDF file
  • Will prompt you to buy the Pro or Standard version by subscription on a regular basis
  • In my opinion, will frustrate users because the code is written by know nothings

Cons

  • The subscription model is very convenient for everyone that is a shareholder on Adobe stock
  • I think the Reader version has security features that resemble swiss cheese placed on a not frying pan
  • I think all version of Acrobat will crash whenever it decides to. Why who knows? Not even support knows why.
  • The people I support recognize the red icon logo for Acrobat
  • The people I support all refer to Acrobat as the Abodee thing
  • The managers of the people I support are ok with the subscription model that provides 2nd and 3rd yachts to the C-levels at Adobe
  • Other
I buy and deploy the software that I am told to buy and deploy. Sometimes the humans just don't want to hear about the alternatives. Do they care that Excel can save a spreadsheet as a PDF? No they don't, they only care that they have the Abodee thing because that allows them to continue in the process that they have memorized and no longer understand why they need to convert a sheet into a PDF.
  • Depending on business division, I can't see any ROI because it's usually not needed
  • The only positive outcome is when complex marketing documents are created and the PDF is now 100MB and can't be emailed so it is printed out on thick poster paper and couriered to the recipient. Wait, you said positive right?
  • Ok positive impact is that Adobe will never allow a subscription license to expire because they will make sure you renew before the end date. Got to have that continuous revenue stream right?
In my opinion, there is absolutely no effort put into security at Adobe. That would surely take away valuable time making sure that the entire portfolio of Adobe software isn't hot garbage in a frying pan. For a solid decade between 2005 and 2015 there were weekly updates for Acrobat that were completely reactionary to how malware producers were taking advantage of all the security holes in Acrobat to spread their malware.
I think Acrobat is technically a smaller install, size wise, compared to PS. I find it really interesting how Adobe can fit so many different functions into Acrobat that NOBODY uses. Do you want to embed a music or sound file into a PDF?

Do you think Adobe Acrobat delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Adobe Acrobat's feature set?

Yes

Did Adobe Acrobat live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Adobe Acrobat go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Adobe Acrobat again?

Yes

Personally, I cannot think of a scenario where Acrobat specifically is the best suited piece of software. Ok maybe in a government setting where most documents should be encrypted but even that is a stretch because there are better methods and resources. I suppose how it handles PKI encrypted documents might be better than other packages.
