Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Acrobat

We assist our customers with applying for licenses in different states and assist with renewals and reporting. The states require PDF forms to be emailed and uploaded to the State in order to apply for the licenses and to submit renewals and reports. We primarily used Adobe Acrobat to fill in forms, add images to forms, edit forms, email forms, upload forms, and send forms for eSignature to our customers.

Pros

  • Fill PDF Forms
  • Edit PDF Forms
  • Convert other File Formats to PDF

Cons

  • Billing is literally impossible to work with
  • Too many ways to type into a form. Need to all be combined into one way.
  • ESignature navigation needs to be improved within the desktop app
  • There has been very little change to Adobe Acrobat for about 10 to 15 years.
  • The only major change has been the addition of eSignatures. This has cut down the cost and time to gather ink signatures from customers by about 90%.
  • Ease of Use
  • Other
There are two major factors that go hand in hand. The price of the software and the usability. If the software is very cheap but has major flaws, we can't use it. If the software is too expensive, we would look for another solution, even if it has some minor flaws.
This has not been an issue for us. We already save all files in encrypted databases with multi-factor authentication and send files with PII through encrypted emails or links. We don't use any security through Adobe Acrobat. We do use the compliant eSignature features, however, and are pleased that it is now eSign compliant.
Adobe Acrobat is a bit more expensive, however, the user interface is a bit more refined. The major issue is that Adobe Acrobat makes it literally impossible to pay to renew your licenses, so I had to switch to another software vendor for PDFs. Foxit PDF had a very simple process to order and renew licenses. Their user interface is very similar to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, which all my employees are familiar with. So it was easy to learn.

Do you think Adobe Acrobat delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Adobe Acrobat's feature set?

Yes

Did Adobe Acrobat live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Adobe Acrobat go as expected?

No

Would you buy Adobe Acrobat again?

No

Adobe Acrobat works well for all of our needs. They could improve a few areas on the user interface, but overall it works well. The major problem is that they don't provide a way to pay to renew each year. It is literally impossible to retain the service. Doesn't make sense that they don't have a simple way to pay to renew each year.

Using Adobe Acrobat

We stopped using Adobe Acrobat Pro last year. We were unable to get ahold of anyone at Adobe that could provide us instructions for how to make payment to renew our licenses. The product works fine, is a bit expensive, but we use it all day long, so it was worth it. But the fact that there was no way to renew the licenses automatically, and no one would respond to us with instructions to renew manually, we couldn't be in a position where our licenses expired.
We have staff that are all trained on troubleshooting software issues. Some are more skilled with this than others and help each other with issues as they arise. If the staff are not able to assist each other, they contact management for more expert guidance to resolve issues as best as possible.
  • Fillable Forms
  • Printing to PDF
  • Typing into PDFs
  • eSignature
  • Save PDFs into OneNote
  • PDF Templates that can be filled automatically.

Evaluating Adobe Acrobat and Competitors

Yes - NitroPDF was being used for PDF editing and eSignature. It had some issues with reducing PDF file sizes and simplified user interfaces.

FoxitPDF is the software we now use. We had to switch from Adobe Acrobat because we were unable to determine how to pay to renew our license with Adobe Acrobat. There was no way to setup auto pay, and no one responded to pay manually.
I think Adobe has a lot of potential. But I think it has been taken over by Corporate leeches that will not let go and are sinking the ship. The board of directors need to completing rethink the management structure and get rid of cheap staff in foreign countries that are not properly trained.
