Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Firefly

We have experimented with Adobe Firefly's text to image feature when we've needed imagery that has been difficult to find. We have also used the generative fill on many occasions when images we have identified for use are not in the correct proportions for the specific design job we are working on. Using the generative fill is a real timer-saver in these instances as we can add additional elements to images to extend their size much more quickly than we could if we were performing the task manually.

Pros

  • Generative fill is a real time-saver, enabling us to modify images to suit our needs quickly and easily.
  • Text to image is an effective and fun tool to use, enabling us to create hard-to-find images for projects, or to create fantasy-like images that would otherwise require lots of manual effort to generate.
  • Firefly enables non-designers and artists to generate ideas, helping them to brief the design team in more detail.

Cons

  • Text rendering is poor, for example, asking for a sign with certain words on it will result in a very poor output.
  • Asking to gennerate an image with a known landmark in it doesn't a give an exact depiction, and usually ends up with something unusable.
  • The generative AI panel in software such as Photoshop should be more prominent. It currently feels like an after thought that you can access when trying to do something else.
  • Firefly has saved us many hours by being able to generate images that were otherwise hard to find, or images that we'd need to request licenses to use. Those time saving equate to money savings as team members can move on to other paid tasks more quickly.
  • When using the generative fill feature, being able to extend the aspect ratio of images we already have in our library has saved us both time and money.
  • Using Firefly has been a useful part of our strategy to introduce Generative AI to our clients, which helps us stay on the front foot with new developments.
When Adobe Firefly is accessed via software such as Photoshop, I feel as though the panels that are used to interact with it aren't prominent enough. This makes is more difficult to use as there aren't enough off-the-shelf options to help guide users when creating their prompts, which sometimes results in wasted time as refinements are needed more often than not.
I found that when using ChatGPT for generating images, the whole end result looked amateurish. Image quality was loose and not at all photo realistic. Although neither engine can generate text on an image to a useable standard, Firefly has far superior image rendering and the output is infinetly more useable, with many images being photo realistic. That said, on occasion, if asking for a person Firefly will generate an illustration that looks like clip art. It would be good to have up front options to omit that sort of result to save time.

Do you think Adobe Firefly delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Adobe Firefly's feature set?

No

Did Adobe Firefly live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Adobe Firefly go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Adobe Firefly again?

Yes

If you have an image that is the incorrect apect ratio, Adobe Firefly is excellent at extending the image via its generative fill feature. Firefly is a great tool that helps even non-artists to create artwork, either for fun, or to pitch early-stage ideas, prior to getting an artist involved. Firefly has trouble rendering text properly, so it can't be used for packaging mockups, or posters etc, without the end user being able to add those elements in manually.
