Overall Satisfaction with Alteryx

I've been using Alteryx for a few years and it has enabled me to quickly produce automations that save thousands of hours of resources. Alteryx is powerful and easy to use. Its drag-and-drop interface allows anyone to pick it up. No coding is required. It has got its limitations, e.g. when trying to write nicely formatted tables to Excel files. Most teething issues/limitations have workarounds which are easy to find on the Alteryx community, though. It’s widely used across the globe by firms and the Alteryx community forums are very active. Overall, a solid product. Would highly recommend giving it a go if you haven't already.
  • Easy to use
  • Powerful data manipulation capabilities
  • Quick workflow/app deployment on Alteryx Server
  • Widely used
  • Alteryx community forums are very active
  • Expensive - there are free/cheaper alternatives such as Knime
  • End user experience is not very customisable
  • Alteryx are slow to respond to user feedback
  • Error handling - allows controls to be built into workflows easily and allows them to be isolated and spat into control reports that can be easily reviewed and audited, thanks to the ability to create multiple outputs in one go.
  • Time-saving - saved huge amounts of time, especially when moving Excel processes into Alteryx.
  • Product development - allowed my firm to create products that we have been able to market and sell to clients.
It would be 10/10 and it perhaps would be for Alteryx Designer (desktop version). Still, I have been having some intermittent issues in Alteryx Server which returns errors when connecting to a database. Alteryx Support is investigating this but it has been going on for a few months now. I’ve also had an issue where the server sometimes fires off multiple emails when only a single email is supposed to get sent out - also an Alteryx Server issue that Alteryx is investigating. Otherwise, it’s incredibly fast and powerful. Not really had issues with the desktop version it’s only published workflows that I’m running into issues with.

Useful when attempting to automate a process that is done manually, as long as the process/steps can be defined logically. It’s saved me huge amounts of time when collating information from numerous files into a single report, which is very easy to set up and runs extremely quickly. It’s also helpful when several different reports need to be created in one go, e.g. an Excel file for each country - it just takes the click of a single button to generate all those files, it’s like magic. Less useful when users need to interact with the data to review/interpret it - a dashboarding tool such as BI/Tableau may be required for that, but Alteryx can still be useful for preparing the data that feeds into it.
