Pros and Cons

Pros

It Just Works.
Appearing as Postgres as an option helps comply with basic SQL needs.
It provisions quickly and has good performance.

Cons

Perhaps expanding for additional types of databases will be helpful for future growth - columnar, vector, etc.

Return on Investment

As expected, its cost is very minor compared to the EC2 instance cost.

If you just need a database with no particular requirements beyond basic SQL, RDS is hard to beat. It's as commodity as it gets, and it is provisioned quickly, unlike some other AWS services at times. We have had no issues with storage limits or query response times. We only exercised it up to about 20 columns, so we have not tried it past hundreds of columns.
