Overall Satisfaction with Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS)

We had used the MySQL and postgres version of RDS.
It's a really good version of the database and AWS manage the updates for you also the Master Slave is a plus to have it managed by AWS
  • Low maintenance
  • Automatic backups
  • Updates
  • No all the parameters can be managed
  • The cost is bigger that have your own but you can save in support
The database are the same. just the managed part is easy as is performed by Amazons

Every time that you need a MySQL or postgres database you can use RDS.
The only issue is when you need 3 party addons like post-gis in that case is better to your own installation
