Overall Satisfaction with AppDynamics
We use it mainly for monitoring our entire server environment, which is quite extensive, this includes serve and application availability and also putting devices in maintenace when changes are happening like during our monthly patch cycles. We have also integrated it with our service desk and NOC to auto generate Requests and Incidents depending on the severity of the alerts being picked up.
Pros
- Monitoring Application Infrastructure, availability and alerts are raised according to predefined thresholds.
- Monitoring Server and Network Infrastructure, availability and alerts are raised according to predefined thresholds.
- It provides a one in all management interface which is good for Enterprise monitoring.
- You can tailor your own dashboards to monitor metrics that are specific to the environment you are interested in.
Cons
- Like most of the tools I've used, AppDynamics has its challenges when monitoring DMZ environments.
- The pricing is quite hefty compared to other tools in the market.
- RBAC Permissions could be improved upon especially large enterprise companies.
- The way it integrates with our ticket logging system when alerts are raised has helped us cut costs where people had to manually log do these tickets and manually do periodic health checks in the environment so that's a win when it comes to cost cutting as fewer human resources are needed.
- The reporting and alerts once tweaked with the correct threshold assignments are more accurate than many monitoring tools we had previously used thus enabling us to make better decisions based on the accuracy of the data supplied.
- Its ability to optimize resource utilization also has enabled us to cut costs.
- ScienceLogic SL1, Dynatrace, SolarWinds AppOptics, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Datadog and ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer
