Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We started using Apptio Targetprocess early in our SAFe adoption implementation. Initially we were looking for a tool to assist us with doing online only PI Planning during COVID lockdown instead of an online visual board. Once we saw the first demo we realised that we had found the perfect tool to not only manage PI Planning but to manage our full Agile implementation and Agile Release Train end to end from PI to PI as it integrated well with JIRA and had incredible reporting functionality and allowed us to visual all work and allowed us to manage all the Portfolio Epics and resultant work items in a truly Agile and coherent way.

Agile Transformation

It helped us tremendously to allow us to:
Visualise and make Transparent all work.
Prioritise, Sequence and Execute all our Portfolio work.
Measure and Monitor all teams and output.
Allowing us to Improve and evolve on our Agile maturity.
It's very well integrated with JIRA and thus is cost effective as we only require a 1:4 ratio for Apptio Targetprocess to JIRA users.

Alternatives Considered

Agile Hive - SAFe in Jira, Jira Align, Jira Software and Kendis

During our RFP and demo rating Apptio Targetprocess came out with the highest score by 3% and was the more cost effective of the closer rival. It rated the highest in 4 out of the 8 categories we graded and had one of the most cost effective implementation costs and ranked the highest in overall requirements by 8%.

Ability to slice and dice all data and reports.
Colourful and easy to read Dashboard functionality.
The ability to add on modules as you grow and achieve higher levels of Agility maturity and the level of support from the Apptio support team vis Live Chat functionality is fantastic!
