Overall Satisfaction with Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup

We use Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup to backup our Microsoft 365 environment. We use all available options of the product: Exchange, Teams, OneDrive and Sharepoint. We have all our employees and students covered in the backup. The product helps us to restore data lost either by mistake or by possibly to neferious activity.

Pros

  • It can cost effectively backup the entire M365 environment and retain backups indefinitely
  • Restores can be very grannual, for example to restore single email message
  • Implemention of the product is quite easy and fast

Cons

  • Restores are search based. Sometimes this is challenging as users don't for example remember what the filename of lost file is or when it was lost.
  • More to do with limitations of M365, but the suite of applications that are available to backup is limited.
  • We have restored files in many incidents that would have required end users a lot of work to restore lost data
  • It's now safer to move data to M365 as we now are sure that the date is backed up. That frees up resources needed for onpremises data center.
  • The product is cost effective way to backup M365 for all users.
The product is very simple to use . That is a good thing and a bad thing as there could be some more advanced view or filtering options if you for example have to restore entire organization units data. There could also me more information from the whole organizations backup status.
Features wise products are pretty similar, but Barracuda is more cost effective when you take into account students in our organizations. This is the main reason we selected Barracuda, to be to protect all users cost effectively. Veeam might have more features, but the cost of licensing outweighs in favour of Barracuda.

For its price the product is very cost effective. For our university it's important to be able to backup students as well as employees and other products tend to have at least limited cost to students. As there are so many students in our university the cost involved with other products would make them too costly. As the amount of data that is involved with M365 is so vast, it's also nice not to have extra cost involved for space used. The product is cloud based, so for some organizations that might be a problem.
