Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Education Management Solutions

We used to use Blackbaud for tuition management, student information system, learning management, and enrollment. Now we just use them for historical tuition management data. There were some good benefits for using Blackbaud for all these services in a school however there was some difficulties using it with a larger Montessori school with mixed grade classrooms.

Pros

  • Student information system
  • Enrollment contracts
  • Tuition Management

Cons

  • Contract creation
  • Inquiry information gathering
  • Smart contract carry over into tuition management
  • Blackbaud started out affordable (20k) but went to 28k after 3 years
  • Could not scale schools, wanted 15k for each additional school
  • Time on tuition management went down due to Blackbaud handling parent calls
Most things are possible to do however we do end up having to have some work arounds to make things happen. Some forms for parents were very rigid like trying to show certain fields r options to parents would show all available options instead of tailored choices. Phone support was generally helpful and timely too.
Blackbaud with its pros and cons is similar to Veracross. Only major negative for Blackbaud is scalability vs Veracross. In terms of LMS, Blackbaud and also Veracross are worse than schoology. They both focus on the Admin/SIS/tution side of it and fall short on the LMS side of it.

Do you think Blackbaud Education Management Solutions delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Blackbaud Education Management Solutions's feature set?

Yes

Did Blackbaud Education Management Solutions live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Blackbaud Education Management Solutions go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Blackbaud Education Management Solutions again?

Yes

For our non-Montessori grades ( 4-8) the system did well to handle grading and student information but it was not as good from the teachers side of setting up assignments and also marking assignments for feedback. For the lower grades Blackbaud doesn't provide easy ways to handle simple tasks like daily updates per child (useful for young students, but not popular in most LMS') and also grading using standards instead of Letter/Number Grades.
