Overall Satisfaction with BlackLine
We use BlackLine for account reconciliations and task completion initially in the accounting department. These two functions allow sign-off documentation to be performed and tracked in the cloud. They also enable real-time close status monitoring and automatic follow-up reminders. Further, data statistics can be collected which gives insight to improve financial close.
Pros
- Automatic email reminders
- Real-time certification/decertification based on data updates
- Risk assessment of GL accounts by duration and reconciling items
Cons
- User interface may be overloaded with too many features that deter users from leveraging all of their benefits
- Setup can be labor intensive, especially for task completion
- Difficult to customize in-scope reconciliation accounts to fit company specific requirements
- Speed up accounting close cycle by automating certain account reconciliations (auto-certify)
- Provide insight to problem areas of month end such as time to complete certain GL account recons and tasks
- Improve visibility and transparency on close status and progress
The impact of Moderating Accounting Playbook, Accelerators, and Catalysts by BlackLine has been positive. Specifically, automated reconciliations reduce manual effort to filter in the in-scope GL accounts. The templates also guide users to leverage industry best practice as a starting point to process and document reconciliations. Dashboard summary also enables teams to identify bottlenecks and make adjustments to workflows.
