Overall Satisfaction with CCH® SureTax®
Telecommunications taxes are one of the most complicated types of taxation to keep track of. When I first launched the business 9 years ago, calculating taxes for telecom required a subscription to a rather expensive set of tools as the task of accurately calculating them was next to impossible to do manually. They were a very limited number of companies that provided tools for this and they all charged roughly the same thing. The companies that provided these services were not only expensive. They were standalone services that had nothing else to offer other than tax calculation. This meant that our billing platform and other associated software still had to generate information to be manually input into the tax solution and then the results would have to be manually put into the billing and management systems. Needless to say I always extremely excited when I found CCH® SureTax because they offered an entire suite of software that allowed us to manage not just taxes for billing but also a number of other separate pieces of software that we were subscribing to that was all designed to work as a system. Ultimately we were able to reduce our costs of compliance significantly and do so while gaining the efficiencies of a software suite that was designed to work together. Since it is clown based it is always up to date without the need to regularly download updates. Payments to various taxing authorities are handled automatically with very little user intervention. Overall I couldn't be more pleased.

- In my experience, there are no pre-made API connectors as many companies provide when they have a REST API available. This would allow us to experiment with some things that might having to set it up manually is cost prohibitive.
- In my experience, the system tends to get bogged down at times which are likely peak usage hours.
- It would be nice if They would roll out information about changes prior to making them although I can't say it's ever represented a significant problem.
- Previously we paid $5,200 per year for a standalone telecom tax calculation program. The overall cost of the combined solution that we have is just about the same as the cost of everything that we have before adding that cost in.
- Once you add in the additional benefit of the API integration and the automation that's freed up employee time, I think it's fairly safe to say that as we've grown, the combined efficiencies have allowed us to operate with two fewer employees than we would have otherwise needed.
- Over past 4 years we have yet to be notified of any errors in our submitted regulatory taxes.
As I've said a number of times, prior to discovering CCH® SureTax, I had not been aware of any company that provided the ability to accurately calculate and utilize API connectivity to allow for an almost entirely hands-off automated billing and payment of telecommunications taxes. Since I moved away from a standalone tax calculation platform with manual entry I haven't bothered to look anywhere else. For businesses other than telecom I'm sure there are many more solutions that are comparable, but tell communications taxes are just plain weird and there aren't enough telecoms out there to justify a large market for software to support those unique taxes and regulatory fees. With the recent boom over the last few years in rural internet, the number of small Telecom providers has grown significantly so I'm sure there are other solutions available now but if so I can't imagine that they could do it any better or at a significantly lower price.
