We use 2 Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers where the production facility has an on prem controller to provide site survivability while all other sites use another unit based in a data center. Both are setup to fail over to each in the event one is not available.
Pros
- Centralised management across the world.
- Ability to setup a fail over over different sites.
- Policies can be customised depending on requirements and the access points in use.
Cons
- Fail over takes some time to fully cut over to second unit.
- Has given us a real redundancy setup across the business
- Controllers do not sync easily so there is some more admin time needed to maintain the configuration
Integrates well with DNA Center
It was easy to setup policies on the units and it was adaptable to the different generations of access points in use.
