Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Center

Initially we used ciscoworks which was replaced by Prime and now Cisco Catalyst Center. Our use case is to monitor, configure, backup and manage our switches and routers. In particular we enjoy seeing the CPU health, run CVE reports, port reclaim reports, and the capability to mass deploy software upgrades.

We needed to provide operational needs such as additional internet bandwidth at our headquarters for work from home employees to connect to our head end vpn routers. Work from home also added extra security perimeters such as people using their home network and public wifi from coffee shops which we had to provide security measures for.
Cisco webex has been instrumental to connecting the remote team together and operational needs such as new employee on boarding, employee training, team meetings, and project meetings. Webex meetings allows the saving of diagrams, meeting notes, and video recordings. Anyconnect has also been instrumental to providing secure access into our network for work from home employees.
I have enjoyed webex calls to our on site technicians that support installation and troubleshooting of our network equipment. The screen sharing capabilities of webex is useful to let Cisco TAC engineers see what issues we are running into and for them to run remote remediating commands. Webex meetings are also great for large meetings for management to communicate with us.
The products above provide security services for cloud, SD-WAN, and suspicious activity on the network. Cisco Catalyst Center provides some security functionality to identify and correct misconfiguration and some level of layer 2 segmentation through vlans. Misconfiguration like spanning tree and interface down alarms are the most useful features Cisco Catalyst Center can provide.

Cisco Catalyst Center is great for managing large scale catalyst switches for headquarters and remote branches for software upgrades, monitor hardware health, and identify vulnerabilities. Cisco Catalyst Center is less appropriate for managing non Cisco network devices, security devices, data center switches, and edge internet cloud network devices but can work along side other network management tools.
