Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 9400 Series
We have three office locations and we use Cisco Catalyst 4507 Switches at all three locations. They are extremely reliable, have double supervisors (for failover), a dual power supply, and room for 4-5 switch-blades. We have had them for about four years now and had no issues with them at all. Cisco SMARTnet support is great - fast response and solution. We have multiple VLANs setup. The Cisco Catalyst switches are rock solid.
Pros
- Dual supervisor, dual power for resiliency.
- Ease of changing out switch blades.
- Network segregation abilities.
- High network bandwidth.
Cons
- Software updates and patching.
- GUI can be improved.
- Robust and secure network.
- Low maintenance with knowledgeable CCO support.
- High ROI.
We have four catalyst switches for our three office locations. We manage each switch individually and have not used any advanced manageability options. Two of the switches, at one location, are set up with a virtual IP for failover purposes and we back up all the configurations to a central repository.
We previously used Dell PowerConnect Switches when we had a single office with a smaller user base. However, as we expanded to multiple locations with more users, we needed a better core switch at each site for ideal bandwidth and performance. We switched to Cisco and have been very pleased with the decision.
