Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 2960 X/XR Series
We use several of these switches to provide end user access to employees. These switches are actively updated and support the speeds and features that we need. The standard features include 802.1q, 1GbE, SFP support and so fourth, but additional advanced features like stacking make this switch a great long term solution.
Pros
- Switching.
- Stacking.
- Long life.
Cons
- Configuration can be steep.
- Price is higher than competition.
- Decreased call quality issues.
- Increased reliability of the network.
Management is through the Cisco CLI which has been around for a while and probably is at least a little familiar to most IT or Network Professionals. While a "true" amateur is probably unable to dive in and configure, there are many tutorials and examples to get that experience and configuration help.
The previous switches that we had from NETGEAR became unsupported in too short of a time for the investment. Many features were implemented in a not compliant way - like 802.1q. Having equipment that we can rely on dropped the number of support issues that we had previously.
