Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

We can easily configure two or more uplinks. It also provide us the ability to load balance traffic between multiple uplinks. Monitor traffic, see stats, create automatic VPN tunnels are also some of the great features that it has. It is really easy to implement and it is great that you can configure it on the cloud.

  • Low local assistance needed, so saves money on traveling.
We spent little time on training new team members, therefore we can quickly onboard them and that saves us a lot of time. Troubleshooting also tends to be easy using the graphic dashboard. It is an intuitive tool for people who is familiar with networking. I recommend it for small remote locations.
As they belong to the same brand, they create a friendly environment with no additional effort. They have similar menus which enable us to understand new products with not much effort. They also create a very complete dashboard with additional useful data gathered from every different kind of device.
Talking about scalability, Cisco Meraki SD-WAN is great as you can configure the devices even before physically connecting them. The management runs in the cloud, so no need for local servers and it does not matter if you add 100 extra devices as that is managed by Meraki itself. You also have configuration templates, so you can assign multiple similar devices to be configured the same way.

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN is way more easy to configure as they do not use a command line interface, but a graphical user interface. Cisco Meraki SD-WAN also has configuration templates, which allows for multiple devices configuration with much less effort than conventional command line interface devices. Monitoring is also a benefit over regular devices.

Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000)
Suitable for branches or remote locations where is difficult to have an IT person on site because you can remotely manage the devices, they require little local assistance to be set up.
Not great for big sites as they lack some very detailed configurations or do not handle very well large amount of traffic.

Using Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

100 - NOC analysts who monitor status, troubleshoot ongoing issues and create tickets based on alerts.
Local site support, who gather reports and check for current status of the network. Also get insight about specific clients who report network issues.
Specialists who design and configure the networks. They also troubleshoot very difficult cases.
60 - Network engineers or any IT infrastructure related positions. They must have at least basic networking knowledge. Those who have a more advanced knowledge get full permissions to be able to troubleshoot any on going problem.

We implemented Meraki in most of our organization sites, so we are always looking for ways of improving its usage, add more features and discover characteristics that we do not know we already have. As it is an easy to use tool and we are growing, hiring new employees, it is really simple to onboard the new joiners.
