Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We've implemented Cisco Mobility Express in one of our smaller branch offices, with just a few Access Points, where a standalone WLC would make no sense. For a branch office, which especially focuses on R&D, a fast and reliable connection was very important.

Pros and Cons

Fast and reliable network connectivity
Good configuration GUI
Quick and simple configuration
No standalone WLC costs

There were some minor issues, but were solved with a firmware update.

Return on Investment

Quick ROI especially with low AP deployments, due to the controllerless architecture
Almost a set and forget solution - the IT could focus on other topics, instead of troubleshooting

Performance

After initial configuration and fixing minor issues with the firmware, the system worked really well, without any downtime. We were also satisfied with the throughput and range.

Reliability and Availability

We did not experience any errors or unplanned outages, the system is very reliable, but as previously mentioned, some initial issues we've encountered were resolved with a firmware update.

Alternatives Considered

We did not evaluate any other controlerless solutions, but we have received good feedback from multiple sources about Mobility Express and that's why we have selected it.

Likelihood to Recommend

I'd recommend [Cisco Mobility Express] for small and medium businesses due to max AP limitations.
