Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Routers

We use them for core routing, L2/L3VPNs and transit

Pros

  • Excellent reliability
  • Many features
  • HSRP

Cons

  • The NCS (network convergence system) boxes have too many issues with compatibility
  • Only egress netflow on NCS boxes
  • Please just make the NCS boxes better the ASR's (aggregation services router) are great
  • Selling bandwidth is one of our main income sources
  • Stability is key for routers, and the ASR's are excellent for that
Yes of course intercompatibility is very important, especially with all the proprietary protocols and ease of management
We do use VRF's (virtual routing and forwarding) for segragation and ACL's occasionally to block incoming traffic but in most cases our DDoS (distributed denial of service) scrubbing boxes and firewalls take care of the security side
Again the stability is great, we haven't really ever set up any other routers for other things than just tests
