Pros
- Stable
- Mature
- Low failure rate
Cons
- Keep up with service provider demands on Cisco 8000
- Familiar to our teams
- Fast deployment
Yes, compatibility is important and it turns out teams job easier, we can have faster deployment, services are ready faster and we have faster ROI. We don't need to loose time on compatibility problems, for which sometimes is difficult to find information and troubleshoot.
Of course, we rely on Cisco product to trust our network are safe from star. Cisco is a trustworthy company, with good presence and good support teams around Europe which makes us feel confortable deploying Cisco solutions, if they fit the customer needs. Security is more and more important, so having firewall capabilities at the routers is very important.
Unfortunately, Cisco Routers (ASR900) don't have legacy interfaces anymore, and for that reason sometimes we need to choose to go with Nokia routers for utilities substation environment. Cisco NCS familyI doesnt support legacy interface and most models are not compliant with IEC 61850, making our job hard to chose Cisco for this environment.
