Overall Satisfaction with Cisco UCS X-Series
Cisco UCS X-Series is our primary platform for compute which has allowed us to better consolidate our server footprint while providing increased performance and the ability to have GPUs. The ability to have GPUs associated with the blades has allowed us to reduce the amount of C-series servers needed and the associated port count allowing for increased ROI during our refresh.
Pros
- Management via Intersight
- GPUs for blades
- Increased bandwidth
Cons
- Additional cooling options to reduce the noise level
- Increased fiber channel speed above 32 Gbps
- Reduced the amount of C-series required and reduced the number of switches as a result.
- Reduced the required amount of rack space
With the standard UCS series starting to be retired, the Cisco UCS X-Series was the logical replacement to stay in the Cisco portfolio.
We were able to remove half a rack of C-series servers and replace them with fewer Cisco UCS X-Series blades managed via Intersight. The deployment of the new systems was about 1/3 the time of previous deployments.
We have observed a greater power savings during off peak workloads since implementing Cisco UCS X-Series blades.
