Overall Satisfaction with CMiC Construction Platform

We are using CMIC Enterprise and Field desktop applications for all of our accounting and project management needs across our entire organization except at the field level. CMiC helps with data integration, reduces the use of spreadsheets, and reduces the amount of paper handling. We are looking forward to using the mobile applications once CMIC has made them as useful as its competitors.
  • Very good integration between financial and project management module
  • Very good RFI, Submittal, CO, PCI and Subcontracts Logs
  • Can export most logs to a spreadsheet which can be useful, we like that a lot.
  • Payroll module is extremely complex to set up and use--not user friendly
  • Payable date entry is not efficient; we lose productivity by changing to CMiC from another software
  • Mobile applications are not fully developed
  • Progress billing module is not user friendly; hard to correct if mistakes are made
  • Presentation of change orders on progress billing is very poor
  • Cannot track gross margins on change orders properly or without extreme efforts
  • Negative return on investment in year 1 and 2; appears to be improving
  • Difficult to deal with support at implementation; always trying to charge additional money; negative experience for us
  • Disappointed with sales promises that were not delivered
The reason we chose CMIC over other platforms 3 years ago is because it was cloud-based and reasonably priced.
First two years, support was very slow. Some support people didn't seem to have much experience with the software themselves. One training person was very poor at giving the forecasting training, was not very knowledgeable. In the last year, support service has improved and is getting better. I have noticed turnaround times are getting quicker, so something good is happening.

I think the CMIC Platform has a lot of potential and one would expect great things such as increased productivity, quick access to information, seamless integration. I believe they are working hard at it and mean well. We have not had the opportunity to use all module but we have surfed around throughout the system and don't believe that their platform, nor anyone elses can be top of the line in every module unfortunately.
To appreciate all of the value that CMiC can bring, one must have a minimum of one full-time person dedicated to the system to learn and implement everything.
CMiC has many different platforms that users can use so a lot of options for its clients. Depending on the size of the organization and on the number of dedicated internal support persons your organization has, I'm sure a company will benefit from most of the features. The problem is for smaller firms that don't have the resources to manage the platform, create workflows, forms, business intelligence form/query, etc., those companies will miss out on CMiC features because to make it work for one's organization, it takes someone internally to customize it. A lot comes out of the box, but not necessarily fit to ones operations. The good side is that there appears to be a lot of flexibillity to customize what information users can see and use.
The security access setting is solid but hard to understand and not user friendly, which could be simplified. The payroll module is too complicated to use and not user friendly. CMiC Construction Platform has poor accrual of vacation pay and poor reporting on pay stubs. Software appears to be geared toward US-based companies, with less attention to Canadian companies when it comes to payroll setup. Has improved since we first launched the system but we had to fight for it.
