Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our team does a lot of hiring for IT and Software Development based roles. We use CodeSignal as one of the stages in our recruitment process to screen candidates for candidates who are proficient in specific coding skillsets. We then pass the results of these tests to hiring managers who can then decide who to move forward with to the next stage of interviews for the positions that are open.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Really simple to set up assessments. Tons of inbuilt tests.
Its easy to share the results of the assessments with stakeholders.
Integrates with our ATS.
Works great for high volume hiring challenges.

Cons

Would like the option to allow candidates to skip certain questions if required. Maybe its there and I couldnt find it.
Interface could be a little nicer, its pretty janky at the moment.

Return on Investment

Made our interview process more efficient.
Lead to better quality candidates moving through the process faster.
Made it easier to involve more people in the interview process.
Allowed us to test candidates across different software skillsets.

Usability

It is pretty easy to set up tests, to the point where you dont need extensive training for new users. They have a lot of inbuilt assessment templates for almost all positions you could hire for. Its also pretty easy to parse an assessments results even if you are a non tech person.

Alternatives Considered

TestGorilla and HackerRank

The pricing for CodeSignal was more in line with what our expectations for this product would be. We were also able to trial it out before buying and everyone on our team liked it. Lastly, it also came recommended from someone in our organization who had used it in a previous company.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you hire for IT or Software development based roles, I can absolutely recommend this. It will improve the quality of candidates you are filtering through in your process and you will be able to add stakeholders early into the hiring process to make it more efficient. Pricing is very reasonable too so its not out of reach for even smaller organizations. Generally speaking though, if you dont hire in bulk for Software Developers etc, then maybe its not for you.
