Overall Satisfaction with Corel PaintShop Pro
My business currently does a good bit of work for a local funeral home - which includes making memorial videos. Many times, photos come in from families basically in a shoebox. I'll scan the stack... then use Corel PaintShop Pro to crop, straighten, cleanup, retouch, etc. I find myself using a variety of tools in there. They're quite straightforward, and also quite extensive. It's nice that I can do everything that I need to right there in one app.
Pros
- Crop
- Straighten
- Scratch repair
- General retouch
Cons
- It would be nice to see some additional keyboard shortcuts added - and one that comes to mind is Ctrl+W to close an open image.
- Editing speed - I can really get thru alot of photos in pretty short order
- Ability to retouch/restore photos - people seem quite pleased with damaged photos that I've cleaned up with Corel PaintShop Pro
- Batch processing is terrific - time saving, and helps IMMENSELY with file format conversion, which can be an issue when I'm receiving digital content from others
I've used Corel PaintShop Pro for many years - so many, in fact, that I don't recall anything specific that I used prior to it. Seems to me that it was owned by Jaasc software when I started, and I've just stuck with it, because it works and it works well. I wholly intend to continue using it.

Using Corel PaintShop Pro
1 - Chief cook and bottle washer. :) It's just me... I'm functionally 'president', and I do all of the major operations in the office myself. I develop our products, I do all of our bookkeeping, I handle customer calls for orders and/or support, and I do everything in the office involving 'graphics', from advertising to including processed photos in our products.
1 - I don't have anyone else in our office supporting PaintShop Pro... it's just me. I'm the user, and if I have issues, I do my own homework. Thankfully, issues that I've had have been minimal, and almost exclusively just a lack of knowledge on my part. Research thru the Corel knowledge base and video tutorials have resolved any issues that I've encountered.
- Processing photos for memorial videos
- Processing graphics to be included in our products
- General photo manipulation
- Cleaning up damaged photos
- Nothing that we're not already doing - simple, effective photo processing
Evaluating Corel PaintShop Pro and Competitors
- Ease of Use
- Other
Having been a user for many, many years, I found that it did everything (and MUCH more) that I needed. I found (find) the program to be intuitive and easy to use - typically don't have to do much homework (if any) to figure out how to do what I want to do. Finally, the program is very affordable.
I don't think I would change my evaluation and selection process. PSP hit the mark right out of the gate. It did what I needed it to do, it was very intuitive and easy to use, and it came in at a great price point. It continues to do all of these things.
Corel PaintShop Pro Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal - Nothing - this product simply fulfilled a need that we had, where nothing specific was doing so previously.
- No issues - just use it on a reasonably powered machine and it works great.
Corel PaintShop Pro Training
- No Training
The program was very easy to learn without training. All that it really required was a ballpark knowledge of what we needed to do in the first place... just general photo processing. Start (typically) with a scan. Crop it... rotate it... maybe even clean up damage to the original photo... that sort of thing. Knowing what was possible in the first place is the first step... figuring out how to do it within the program was the next - and it's quite intuitive. Further, the help file(s) and video tutorials are extremely helpful.
Configuring Corel PaintShop Pro
I would say that the bigger (more powerful) the machine that use, the better the program performs. Give it the processing power that it needs.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface - I only customized the interface to tweak it down to the options that I use the most. I find it to be very configurable and simple to change.
No - the product does not support adding custom code
No... none.
Corel PaintShop Pro Support
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Problems get solved Immediate help available | None |
No, I have not purchased premium support. I haven't had a need to. So far, without exception, when I've had questions about the program, I've been able to get answers from the existing help file(s) and online video tutorials. Collectively, those have been a terrific resource.
I have not had to contact support for anything.
Using Corel PaintShop Pro

|---|---|
Like to use Relatively simple Easy to use Technical support not required Well integrated Consistent Quick to learn Convenient Feel confident using Familiar | None |
- Cropping
- Smart photo fix
- Image rotation
- Saving as different file types
- Nothing in particular - maybe just wish there were more keyboard shortcuts for very common functions
Corel PaintShop Pro Reliability
Integrating Corel PaintShop Pro
I've not had a need to integrate it with anything else - for me, it's a standalone product.
Relationship with Alludo
No terms were necessary.
No - Corel has been top notch in product availability and pricing.
Upgrading Corel PaintShop Pro
Yes - Absolutely zero downtime. The program updates and actually completely new, unconnected programs. You can have multiple versions of the program loaded at the same time, and they'll run parallel. I've not had a need to do that - after upgrading to a new version, I don't need the old one any longer. Uninstall it, use the new one... all is well. I've never encountered any installation or uninstall issues.
