Overall Satisfaction with D&B Finance Analytics
We use D&B Finance Analytics when onboarding new customers as part of our credit review process. It is our preferred platform for customer credit analysis and works well for established companies with sufficient history and data. It sometimes falls short of our needs, when the customers are relatively new and do not have much history.
Pros
- It provides a PAYDEX history analysis with average days beyond terms.
- It rates the company on their delinquency score, assessing their likelihood of payment delinquency.
- It notifies you if there are any bankruptcies.
Cons
- I would like to see customer reports come back with a summary page of the results detailing the biggest takeaways.
- On the summary page, I would like to be able to click on a link that takes me to the details. For example, credit recommendation amount.
- I would like to see the report make suggestions based on the results, such as "Do not recommend credit", or "proceed but with caution".
- As long as good credit decisions are being made by the user, DSO can expect to be reduced.
- ROI in terms of value for the cost of using D&B, is typically favorable.
- Working Capital generally does increase with better DSO and fewer write offs.
I have only used D&B Finance Analytics in my career; however, there are alternatives that we use when the data is not available. We typically request trade references and a bank reference, which are usually very valuable in addition to the D&B report. When all three options provide valuable data, we generally make the best decisions on credit.
