Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Datadog for Logging, tracing, synthetic monitoring(API, browser tests, HTTP tests), creating alerting on top of that.
Scope of Our Use Case

1) Infrastructure Monitoring:
We monitor servers, containers, and cloud resources (AWS, Azure, GCP) for CPU, memory, disk, and network metrics.
2) Application Performance Monitoring (APM):
Tracks service-level performance, latency, and error rates across microservices.

3) Log Management:
Centralized log ingestion and analysis for troubleshooting and compliance.

4) Synthetic Monitoring:
Simulates user interactions to ensure uptime and performance of critical endpoints.

5) Dashboards & Alerts: Custom dashboards for teams

Cons

Cost needs to be brought down. Companies have started moving to open source technologies. Even though open source has limited functionality but it is being developed to match Datadog level
Add location for synthetic other than cloud provided
Integration of Vendor DD dashboard into our own DD dashboard will help in creating alerts by ourself

Usability

Most of our BUs use the Datadog only. We have built many automations around this.
Whether creating filters or scheduling downtime, we many scripts created using APIs provided by Datadog
Even for creating multiple monitors, we leverage API's and use json file to create multiple monitors in a single shot.
To send automatic reminders to people who have muted monitors for longer time

Alternatives Considered

Catchpoint, Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry

All other tools dont have all the features which Datadog provides.
Easy to use from UI where other may have complicated UI or no UI at all to create monitors. Consider like AWS Grafana, we have limitation to create monitors from UI. There is no recurring downtime for monitors. There are many small features which Datadog provides
