Overall Satisfaction with Db2

We use db2 for all our in-house developed applications and for any vendor application. If it supports db2 it’s the first option we go with. We use it for OLTP, OLAP and also mixed workloads. We also implemented db2 pureScale for an HA solution which has 2 nodes on each data center.
  • Less administrative overhead
  • Easy upgrades
  • Easy maintenance
  • Support
  • Stability
  • Benchmarks
  • Product should work as it is advertised
  • As I recommended PureScale was disappointing
  • Stability is the key for success, after v8.2 none of the versions were stable enough
  • Positive thing is that db2 can recover from failure very well compared to other products out there
Price aspect is good with DB2, db2 Blu as was disappointing it couldn't compete with IQ. pureScale was disappointing and couldn't compete with Oracle RAC. Pros of using db2 is that it is admin friendly. Also it has a lot of flexibility with memory management which other RDMs don't have. DB2 can accommodate more numbers of db2 on a smaller hardware and [this] not possible with others.
  • Good for OLTP
  • Good if you want to save on cost of ownership
[It's] less appropriate for and HA solution, pureScale was very disappointing. It was promoted well but it didn't reach the expectations. The biggest failure I see with DB2 is that it doesn't work as it is marketed. DB2 needs to step up and make the technology to be more stable than Oracle and needs to be better than Oracle.
