Overall Satisfaction with DISCO

Two of our matters are hosted on DISCO. Our attorneys use DISCO to review and issue code documents, and I ultimately produce responsive documents out of the platform. We use the product across our organization. The platform addresses unruly data by streamlining the review process and allowing us to organize data in such a way that we can easily find important documents in the blink of an eye.
  • Tagging is highly intuitive. The reviewers are mostly attorneys who appreciate ease of use, and the tagging feature is so easy that the attorneys can spend the bulk of their time evaluating the merits of the case rather than figuring out things like tagging.
  • Email threading is a huge time saver. By allowing the reviewer to only review the inclusive email and applying a tag to all emails that make up that thread is invaluable and allows for consistency in coding which is key to any document review.
  • The artificial intelligence feature is also a huge time saver and allows for consistency in coding.
  • There are times where I am hesitant to contact tech support since most often I am redirected to our project manager whose time is billable. I wish the built-in tech support would field more questions so I don't have to incur billable rates from the PM.
  • The searches are not as easy as they look. Some of our users have never gotten comfortable with the search mechanism.
  • HUGE negative is the $500 monthly minimum. Most of our cases start out slowly with data trickling in. Often times, the attorney will not agree to host data in DISCO based on the high monthly minimum. They cannot justify the cost to the client.
  • The overall look of the platform looks a bit too vanilla with the white background and pastel colors. Would a dark mode be a ridiculous ask?!
  • The main positive impact is speeding up review which ultimately saves the client money and paints us in a positive light. The time saved on review translates to more time our attorneys can spend working on the merits of the case.
  • The negative impact is the monthly costs incurred while data sits stagnant in DISCO when we are not actively working in the case. This paints us in a negative light with the client since they get the invoice each month.
1) Tags! They are easy to use, love the color-coding and easy to apply in bulk to records. Tags allow for great organization which is probably our number 1 goal as we approach depositions and court deadlines where we need to find documents quickly.
2) Email threading - what a time saver. The goal this helps us accomplish is saving time, thus allowing attorneys to focus on the meat of arguments rather than sifting through duplicate emails.
3) Artificial intelligence. Again, this saves time which allows the attorney to focus on the goal of formulating legal strategy quicker in a deadline-driven environment.
I think the features like bulk-tagging, email threading and artificial intelligence cut down the overall cost of ediscovery tremendously. Since the flat-rate pricing model is relatively new to our organization (we had Concordance where we didn't incur steep, predictable monthly fees), it's still hard to get used to seeing the high monthly invoices. So overall, I think using DISCO ultimately saves our client money by the efficiencies created in review.
The speed of searching, ease of uploading and producing documents is on par with other platforms I've used. The main benefit to using DISCO is the reliability of the platform - I have not encountered any bugs or glitches. This is key. Often times, I have to engage in heavy quality control after running a document production. Not with DISCO - everything looks almost perfect (I say almost since there is not the option to endorse images on a per-page basis, so I've had to do workarounds to mark specific pages within a document "CONFIDENTIAL" by using the redaction feature - not very convenient).
EXCELLENT. Vinh Huynh is our project manager and he has helped tremendously with anything we throw at him. Extremely responsive, clearly a subject-matter expert and overall pleasant to talk to, Vinh is one of the most dedicated professionals I've ever worked with (and I've been working in ediscovery since 2001). I'm always at ease knowing I have Vinh to talk to if we encounter any issue, no matter how complex. At the support level, I've always had positive experiences.
Logikcull has hidden fees - their pricing is not as predictable as they represent. eDiscovery Point has major flaws in its production utility - generating overlapping images, creating jagged edges on produced documents, etc. We also use Everlaw which is proving to be on par with DISCO.
DISCO is well suited for cases whose GB size justifies the monthly minimum charge. Several times we did not host data in DISCO since the data was too small to justify the high monthly minimum. Each time, these cases grow well above 12GB, thus justifying the monthly minimum. But they are not hosted in DISCO since attorneys are scared off by the monthly minimum at the incipience of the case.
