Overall Satisfaction with Dovetail

We log all interviews, studies, surveys, and documents related to users, and we use specific tags to easily retrieve insights.

The tagging system allows us to efficiently find content that was previously scattered across Word files and other documents stored on a shared drive.

We can build studies or export insights to reuse them in our presentations.

Pros

  • tag system
  • create and share insights
  • tag on video

Cons

  • Since the nav changed I'm a bit confused between the top nav and the side nav.
  • put insights on a user journey line to build userfflow
  • It has helped us save time by centralizing data from multiple initiatives, across marketing, sales, product, and design, into a single source of truth, potentially saving several hours per month.
  • Dovetail also supports onboarding for new team members, as it becomes the central place where all user research and knowledge are stored and easily accessible.
  • Finally, it enables us to rely on structured, evidence-based insights rather than scattered or inconsistently documented reports created by different individuals. This improves the reliability of our insights and strengthens overall decision-making.
I didn’t use it much because our tagging system is very specific and tailored to our internal framework. When I tried using it, the results often weren’t relevant enough to our needs. The insights generated were too broad and high-level, whereas I was looking for very specific, actionable sentences rather than long, synthesized paragraphs
It enabled teams to centralize all research and user-related information in one place and rely on a single, structured source of truth, instead of navigating through multiple folders and scattered files stored across a shared drive. This has improved visibility, alignment, and overall access to knowledge across all teams in the company.
As I said, since the navigation changed, I’m a bit lost. The previous structure felt more intuitive, and I could quickly access the sections I needed. Now, some areas seem reorganized in a way that’s less predictable, which slows me down. I sometimes have to click through multiple menus to find specific features or content.

The tag system is clearly the main reason why I chose Dovetail. It allows me to structure, categorize, and retrieve insights efficiently across different types of research. Tags make it much easier to connect data from various sources, identify patterns over time, and reuse insights in a meaningful and scalable way across teams.

Do you think Dovetail delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Dovetail's feature set?

Yes

Did Dovetail live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Dovetail go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Dovetail again?

Yes

It is well suited for centralizing qualitative and quantitative data, categorizing it, and organizing it from multiple entry points (interviews, surveys, usability tests, documents). It is particularly effective for structuring research outputs, tagging insights, and making user evidence easy to retrieve and reuse across teams.

However, Dovetail is less appropriate for product creation and delivery workflows, such as product discovery and prioritization, opportunity management, roadmap tracking, user journey mapping, or persona management. These activities typically require tools better suited to continuous product planning, visualization, and cross-functional collaboration.
