Overall Satisfaction with Dovetail

I use Dovetail to analyze customer interviews and mostly qualitative surveys. When analyzing I normally start by tagging interviews/ surveys, then I categorize them and identify common themes and trends. I especially use the canvas feature around this. Then I add these to a insights report. Top business problems Dovetail addresses: Identifying themes in qualitative interviews, being able to share interviews, insights/analysis of them with colleagues. Highlights also give a nice quick chart which helps to showcase in presentations to leadership. So I have my research interviews and their analysis categorized by projects in a structured way.

Pros

  • The tagging feature that allows me to tag interview transcripts/ survey answers
  • AI summarization of interview with findings
  • Ability to store interviews / surveys grouped as projects

Cons

  • Quantitative data analysis is hard or not possible. Even charts feature doesn't work well with them.
  • Categories/groups we make within canvas can't be used with charts
  • Sometime I feel the AI chat isn't answering questions via a deep analysis. It over relies on my insights
  • Risk reduction
  • Saves effort
  • Support better decision making
Automated transcription generation is very helpful.
AI highlight is not a favorite of mine and it doesn't seem that accurate to me.
AI chat is quite good but relies too much on my insights reports that it's own analysis of the research data available. I think AI use can be much better.
Pretty good as my team can look at and learn form research the rest of us have done. Even for future team members this is a big benefit.
I have generally found Dovetail easy to use. I initially got a little walkthrough from senior though when i first started. Otherwise, it may have been a little tough without going through some guides and videos
I selected Dovetail because our company's UX research team uses it.

Do you think Dovetail delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Dovetail's feature set?

Yes

Did Dovetail live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Dovetail go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Dovetail again?

Yes

Dovetail is well suited for qualitative data analysis like interview data, qualitative survey responses. Also, it's a great place to use as a research repo to store data.

Dovetail is less appropriate if you have quantitative data or you are looking for a tool that lets you run different research methods through it like questionaries, card sorts etc.
