Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

We used DraftSight to edit and review our database of old CAD files and update our current dwg. extension drawings for our CAM software. We also used this to edit old drawings in our instruction manuals. We found it easier to use DraftSight than trying to do these operations in Solidworks.
  • Excellent conversion between dwg. and other formats.
  • Easy to use interface for creating 2D drawings.
  • Great too for making quick sketches to show customers.
  • Sometimes it runs buggy or freezes up the screen.
  • Would be nice to have more options with the color schemes/ contrast.
  • I believe that it has improved overall productivity, especially with management of old files and presentations in meetings.
  • Helped increase accuracy giving us a tool to update drawings in old manuals.
  • increased communication with customers as a tool for sketching up ideas quickly.
I have only used TurboCAD and AutoCAD as alternatives. I thought Draftsight was a lighter version of AutoCAD, sometimes you don't need the bulky interface will every option like AutoCAD offers. I found TurboCAD to be clumsy and poorly laid out. It was very hard to find the commands I wanted to use. I found Draftsight very straightforward after being an AutoCAD user for many years. Overall I found Draftsight the easiest to use of the three.
A good alternative to AutoCAD especially when working with dxf. or dwg. extensions. Used as a bridge between solidworks and our old database of AutoCAD drawings. Good file coversion to get old files into newer formats to aid in updated to 3D programs. Also works well for making quick sketches when conducting meetings with customers.
