Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

Perfect little CAD package. We use it for all our 2D work when it would be easier to open DXF and plant layouts in a 2D package and not a 3D. Works the same as AutoCAD lte but at a much better price.

I doubt it would ever become our main driver CAD as we have Fusion and SOLIDWORKS licenses, but both of those, especially SOLIDWORKS, struggle with 2D CAD.
  • Quick layout drawings
  • Ability to modify 2D CAD for burn off and flat patterns
  • Allows good file conversion between lots of 2D CAD packages
  • For hobbyists, it would be good to re-introduce the free version as we used to recommend this as a good learning package wanting to get into the industry and now we recommend other packages
  • The package is fine as it is, leave it alone and stop adding features else it is going to become bloated and the light nature of it is what we like.
  • It is a cheap, useful tool to have.
  • Saves time against opening up 2D in 3D packages
  • Allows us to communicate designs with other engineering companies
We used to have AutoCAD and there was nothing wrong with this until they moved to a subscription service and yes our keys would still work but we found that 3D CAD packages were using later DWG and DXF formats meaning we couldn't open the files. Hence, we moved to DraftSight, but this is cost-driven, and should DraftSight's cost go up we don't want or need the additional features. We would then move to an alternative tool.
Anyone wanting to do 2D work, plant layouts, machine layouts, and quickly throw designs together and work out alignment should try DraftSight.

Whilst the industry is moving to 3D, a lot of data is still communicated over 2D and this package is a must-have if you do not own AutoCAD. Personally, I am not interested in the 3D side of DraftSight and never will be.
