Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use in our engineering DraftSight to design tooling and hardware that is used in our shop. It also is helpful in creating drawings for the shop floor to use for production purposes. DraftSight makes what used to be a much more manual job, very easy with the built in tools that it has.

Alternatives Considered

AutoCAD

I've previously used AutoCAD during my time in school, and DraftSight stacks up very well against it. Both have similar features, but I feel that AutoCAD is too focused on the 2D space, while DraftSight does a good job of allowing you to transition to the 3D space.

SOLIDWORKS, Bluebeam Revu

Likelihood to Recommend

For the purposes we use DraftSight for in our company, it does a great job of being a quick and easy way to create drawings that are used for production. It is very capable of being used in multiple stages of the design process, from the analysis of a given drawing, to the design of tooling, to being able to make a drawing of your design and release that drawing to a shop floor.
