Overall Satisfaction with Encompass

Encompass is our Loan Origination System (LOS). We use it exclusively throughout the entire life of the loan. All sales and operations departments utilize the system. It is cloud based - our internal IT department does host some database servers that communicate with the end user. Encompass solves for most all of our requirements. We do have a staff of 4+ developers who are constantly customizing our Encompass environment, tailoring it to perform beyond its basic operations.
  • Encompass is constantly being updated. These updates include enhancements to the product that allows greater efficiency in the process.
  • Encompass is cloud based, and had less maintenance and lower operational costs.
  • Encompass integrates with all of our products through an API. These integrations help lower the amount of "clicks" our users need to accomplish certain tasks.
  • Encompass lacks certain built in "checkpoints" and prerequisites that would otherwise help make the process of a loan origination more intuitive.
  • Encompass does experience a fair amount of maintenance periods. The windows often occur every weekend.
  • From an administrative standpoint the user account creation and provisioning process could be improved. For example, resetting a user's password requires the administrator to expand directories and scroll through lists of users rather than a search functionality that would hone in on the user who would require action.
  • Encompass has been very expensive overall. We have had to hire full time developers and even contract consultants to "optimize" Encompass.
  • Encompass has eliminated several other products. It has become an all-in-one solution to loan origination.
  • We are reliant on Encompass and if there is an "outage" we are dependent on Ellie Mae to bring the service back online.
I wasn't personally involved in the Encompass purchase however I do know there are (more expensive) alternatives that I have been told are more intuitive and less prone to the type of issues we see on a daily basis.
Encompass would be most suited in a smaller environment such as a small business of less than 100 employees. This is my opinion based on the user management system Encompass houses and the lack of a robust feature set not included with the baseline product.
